A US Airways plane has crashed into the Hudson River, sending passengers fleeing for safety in the frigid waters.

New York City firefighters and ferry boats are responding to the accident. It was not immediately clear if there were injuries.

Government official say the plane struck a flock of birds that disabled 2 engines.

"I just thought, 'Why is it so low?' And, splash, it hit the water," said witness Barbara Sambriski, a researcher at The Associated Press.

Wow!

This is not a day when you want to be in the Hudson River. I hope that they got everyone out ok.

Well that's good news, I guess in a way they were lucky to go down there and not out over the ocean.

My son just asked me, "Where's LaGuardia?" and I said, "It's in Queens, near Shea Stadium. I mean, near Citi Field."

I have some adjusting to do.

What a story, though! A flock of geese taking down a jetliner! And everyone survived! Wow! I can imagine the adrenaline rush they must be feeling right now.

River's prolly warmer than the air out there, I'm sure they're fine.

I've been watching the reports just now and the pilot by all accounts did a remarkable job .After he landed the plane he went up and down the aisles making sure all were OK and getting out.

Several articles in the papers today about how improbable it was to make that landing, and how that guy must have big giant balls to remain calm and get it done.

Way to go Sully.

On one of the cable nesw channels last night, the host interviewed an airline pilot with "35 years' experience". The host asked him to rate what Sully did, from 1-10. The guy said "7 or 8".

Excuse me, but I'd like to know what a 10 would have been; land the plane on the Intrepid?

He could have landed it in Times Square. Then the passengers could have disembarked and had a nice dinner.
