All Purpose Mets Memorabilia Thread 2009

I thought we had something like this, maybe I'm think of the ebay thread in the Member Promo Forum. As I said in another thread, my wife met a few ex-Mets last night at Yonkers Raceway. A couple of people from her office go to eat, bet on $2 races and they have video slots now to compete with the Indian reservations in Con- necticut. I'm sure you all encourage your spouses to go out gambling on a weeknight in today's economy but that can be the subject of another thread. Anyways, she told me that Art "Shamansky" and Ron "Swobosomething" were making an appearance so I gave her some cards. I didn't really think she'd wait on lines (I know I'm not terribly fond of it) but she made a nice score. Turns out Harrelson and Kranepool were there too! I'm not all that much of an autograph guy, but I'm thinking I may get the bug to start trying to get signed 60's and 70's Mets cards ... that '67 Mets Maulers card is cool and the solo Swoboda is signed really nicely.

Real nice..I'm a big fan of the 1967 Topps set with its vivid coloring..The Maulers card is sweet...Then Seaver Rooke, Cleon with the Rookie trophy, Krane..great memories

Bang. I have to cull some stats on my autograph collection. I'm at 196 different Mets autographed cards, and should hit 200 this week. (Kase -- you willing to part with one of those Shamskys? He's high on my list of needs.)

Funny, KB said that Art was the friendliest of the three. Rocky wouldn't sign the second card (the mauler one) and said one sig only. She complained to a woman who was orchestrating things and the lady brought card over to him and he signed it. Sea, I'll trade you the signed 1970 Art for a signed card of another late 60's or early 70's Met that you might have dubs of. Or I could just roll over and ask for an equally or better centered 70 Art, but check your inventory first! Steve, Ed has no interest in shore birds ... I've asked him several times.

I keep getting e-mails from people asking me how they can get so-and-so's autograph, and I usually tell them to try writing to them c/o the Mets, but I don't promise that that will work. I got one just today from someone desperate to get Lee Mazzilli's autograph. A few months ago I would have told him to write to Lee at SNY, but it's probably too late for that now. E-mail on the way. A lot of guys -- mostly recent/current guys, but plenty of older guys too -- have "certified" autographs that the card companies have released over the last ten years or so. But there are also a lot of players, past and present, who will sign "ttm" (through the mail), care of their home addresses or work addresses or whatever. Not so much for your huge stars -- Tom Seaver's not signing your card -- but your Bobby Vees and Chuck Taylors and Bob Bailors and Bruce Boisclairs are usually happy to sign and return what you send, provided you include a SASE. There are plenty of sites (StarTiger, SCN) where you can pay for addresses; some are better than others. (Among other things.) As I said, I'm pushing 200 autographed cards now; it's a fun extension for my baseball card collection, and gives me something to put in a frame and hang on the wall.
