Assuming seven spots in the pen, five appear safe:

Feliciano
Green
Putz
Rodriguez
Sanchez

I have these two guys as favorites for the last two spots, though hardly guaranteed.

Muniz
Stokes

OE: These guys are fule fivers who the Mets lose if they don't carry:

Cherry
O'Day

These guys are on the 40-man roster as well:

Knight
Kunz
Robertson

Other non-roster hopefuls include:

De Los Santos
DeSalvo
Dessens
Fossum
Martin
Ruelas
Snyder
Switzer
Rivera

Paddy Pooler, lay them odds.

I see Redding/Garcia getting one of those spots as the long man.

Power can add them to the mix. Huh-why not?

The Mets have to give a long look at their Rule 5 picks: RHP Darren O'Day (Rule 5 selection from Angels) and RHP Rocky Cherry (Rule 5 selection from Orioles).

To rebut, GWreck... I'm not sure Garcia's up for a bullpen slot; according to some 'paper blog posts, in the Chief's considerable head, he's either starting, or he's taking his ball and glove to some team that'll quit being mean and let him play.

Gimme the Redding-Stokes parlay to go with my original-odds Garcia action. Papa needs a new case of antacids...

Yeah, I inadvertantly left out five guys actually on the roster. Bu-duh. Adding now.

I'm going with Redding and a lefty free agent to be determined (either Beimel or Ohman).

Add Livan Hernandez to the list.

My guess for the bullpen would be the same 5 guys you called locks as well as O'Day. The last man will be Stokes if Redding is the 5th starter and Redding if he isn't the 5th starter. I think any of the other 5th starter candidates wouldn't end up as longmen but starting in triple-A instead if they dont make the cut.

I want a guy called Rocky Cherry on the Mets. I don't care if it's the Rocky Cherry, or Duaner Sanchez changes his name to Rocky Cherry.

Who is left in camp and whi is fighting for a spot in the pen?

Maybe because he felt the need to talk but during the game last night Burkhart was talking up DeSalvo like he really had a shot.

Tim Redding looks like a lock for long relief

Redding - 2/1
Sanchez - CUT
Cherry
O'Day
Muniz
Knight
Kunz - Sent down to Minor League camp
Robertson
De Los Santos - Sent down to Minor League camp
DeSalvo
Dessens
Fossum
Martin - INJURED
Ruelas
Snyder
Switzer
Rivera

De Los Santos and Kunz were busted down to Minor League camp yesterday, along with Mackowiak and Josh Thole.

Everybody else's odds have to go up baded on the Sanchez release, plus those cuts.

I'll believe that when he gets some outs.

Not mentioned yet in this thread:

Bobby Parnell.

I see Parnell (or perhaps O'Day) as getting a spot.

But how m any chips are you putting on the line?

I'm putting Parnell at 25/1 odds

I'm looking for something in an O'Day/Redding/Stokes parlay. What kind of odds are the Rule Vers getting this fine marnin'?

I can give you a few combinations...

O'Day/Redding/Stokes all to make the team out of Spring Training....300/1

O'Day/Redding/Stokes - none to make team out of ST - 200/1

O'Day/Redding/Stokes - O'Day to make team out of ST, Redding to make team out of ST but not Stokes - 300\1

What's your combo?

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr

200 Oroscos on the first option, Paddy-- Papa needs a new single-game Promenade Outfield Every Other Seat With Extra-Large Cup Holder ticket for Mets-Yanks!

(Like O'Day a lot, and think the sidewinding Rule V-y ness wins out over Parnell's brand of gas.)

So the Sanchez release turned this chase for two into a chase for three.

With the competition virtually over, our winners look like O'Day, Parnell, and Stokes, with only Elmer Dessens and Fernando Nieve still otherwise in play.

I hope Paddy is ready to pay up.
