Spring Training Forum Meeting

Kong76
Feb 11 2009 03:35 PM

Ok, it's early, but it's time to calendar the forum meeting to kick off the 2009
CPF season. Unless there is a groundswell of date problems from the forum
faithful, this year's meeting will be at The Heartland Brewery at the foot of
The Empire State Building -- Sunday, March 29th, starting around 12:30.

The Mets are playing Baltimore, and the game should be on SNY or WB11.
My hope is that picking a place instead of trying to solicit discussion, picking
a date that is six weeks away, and picking a place with goods suds and a
quality menu, will bring out some of the posters who haven't been able to
make it in year's past.

There's usually a quality Mets door prize or two, you get to put faces with the
posters if you've never attended a forum event, and who knows maybe we'll
get a load on and bring someone up the Empire State Building and toss them
off for a goof!

Uh, scratch that last part ... chime in NOW!!!

AND a place that, will have no problem in getting the game on!

Ever been to the top of Empire State Building, Steve?

Someone named Kong wanting to go to the Empire State Building.
What's wrong (or right) with this picture?

Not sure if I can make it yet. I think we have an out of townwedding to go to. I'll let you know as the time nears.

I'll try to get on board.

I think we should have a Savannah meeting sometime this season. It's a gorgeous city (if we get in before the heat gets too furious) and the Gnats look like they may actually be good this year (or not as historically awful as they've been recently).

m.e.t.b.o.t.
Feb 11 2009 08:32 PM

m.e.t.b.o.t. is hesitant to attend; however, the possibility, no matter how small, that the aerodynamic and terminal ballistics properties of human poster stevejrogers might be characterized is intriguing. m.e.t.b.o.t. plans to be fully wound and in attendance.

human posters should be forewarned that m.e.t.b.o.t. is a notoriously poor conversationalist, and has been known to sit still for hours on end without joining in nearby human dialogue.

um, based on the newly posted spring training [url=http://web.sny.tv/teams/tvschedule.jsp?oid=36018:1zhtjf7w]tv schedule[/url:1zhtjf7w] posted in some other thread here, should we consider moving this to saturday, march 28th?

cos the game on the 29th doesn't look like its televised in our market... and the orioles don't look like they've released their tv schedule yet.

The 28th isn't as good a date for me - I can make it, but D-Dad and MK can't.

Have family visiting that weekend, but we might all show up. This time, I expect to have a working cell phone, so I won't be aimlessly wandering around the bar trying to figure out who looks like he might be a Pooler.

Heartland Brewery proved a good choice for a meeting of 'Poolers with a lot of heart. Meeting and re-meeting the humans was swell, but the highlight was an up close and personal view of...m.e.t.b.o.t.!!! He's every bit as mechanical in real life as he is in PotG voting. When wound up, he moves faster than Ramon Castro.

I particularly appreciated the presentation of my first literary award, the coveted K.C. Rheingold Tray. Believe me, authors don't write books for the money. It's for stuff like this. Thanks y'all.

Nice meeting, thanks to everyone who could come and we hope to
see many others at the next event.

m.e.t.b.o.t was a treat to finally meet in person (and the marathons).

The Rheingold tray is the second presentation of the "cranepoolforum
poster achievement award" for posters who accomplish extraordinary
baseball things outside of our daily internet camaraderie on the pool
and other sites. Last year's winner was J. C. Lunchgrabber. I'm glad
you liked it FAFIF, it's a honor to present it.

I think Steve's saintly behavior was largely due to the sun coming out
and the likelihood that the observation deck was about to open.

What? I just said he kinda looked like Tom Glavine. That's not so bad. I could have said he kinda looked like Willie McGee, or Wally Moon, or that guy with the big ears.

(edit: Don Mossi.)

Benjamin Grimm
Mar 30 2009 01:47 PM

The thing about Willie McGee was that his ears were on upside down.

His left ear was attached, lobe facing upwards, on the right side of his head. And his right ear was similarly attached to the left side of his head.
