Making the Band

Yesterday MK tried out for the Central New Jersey Music Educators Association Orchestra and Band. The results are up, and the kid made it!

This is the first time he has ever really had to try out for something. He was more than a little nervous about it, and very critical about how he played during the audition. But he's third chair in the band, so obviously he did just fine.

I am very proud of that kid :)

Re: Making the Band

MK not only made the band again this year, but he had the second highest overall score for trombones. He'll be the first chair trombonist in the orchestra (the kid who scored higher is the first chair trombonist in the band).

I am really proud of him :)

Re: Making the Band

Congrats to MK.

(For what it's worth, I also played brass when I was in school and found the orchestra much more rewarding than the band -- probably a combination of the prestige of playing with an "entire symphony" but also that with fewer of the woodwinds and brass it requires more subtlety and technique to fit in with the other instruments).

Thanks Gwreck.

And MK was excited about making the orchestra this year - he's looking forward to playing with the strings.

The first rehearsal was supposed to take place yesterday, but it was postponed due to the weather. He still hasn't stopped grumbling about that.
