You and Rotblatt fight this out among yourselves

Rotblatt
Sep 01 2005 12:51 PM

Beat me to it, Elster!

From my aborted thread:

It's a new month for the new Mets, and they need to turn over a new leaf.

Today's Key Questions for the Game: Can Glavine remain dominant? Will our bats awaken? Will Leiber continue to suck ass against lefties? Will Willie play every lefty on his bench in order to maximize Leiber's suckage?

Willie gets it right by putting Matsui in there, but errs by taking Castro out of the lineup. Castro's hot as hell and hammered the ball in his last at bat. If ever we were going to put Jacobs at C, today was the day, as lefties are hitting .315 off of Lieber, and Mientkiewicz is on the bench, I think.

Bret Sabermetric

Sadly, I don't think Jacobs is going to play catcher, I'm pretty sure DiFelice will get a start on every one of Castro's off-days.

Well, Bret, posters these days no longer have any heart-gumption-fire-sticktoitiveness. Not like in the good old days, when guys like Sal, Norrin & Wide roamed the hallowed halls of CPF, getting into fights at the drop of a hat and setting New York cyberspace abuzz with their firey invective and drunken abuse.

So I take back the part about starting Jacobs as catcher. I'd still rather see Castro in there, though . . .

First pitch swinging AGAIN, Reyes hits it to Michaels, who boots the ball. Reyes with a single, to second on an error.

outside with his butt flying around a little. Floyd beat the shift on his hit. De-
Felice, oh never mind.

Rotblatt
Sep 01 2005 02:26 PM

Matsui makes a nice play after a 12-pitch at bat by Michaels to hand Glavine his 3rd 1-2-3 inning. He's at 91 pitches now.

Bottom of the 5th, Phillies 2, Mets 0.

Glavine struggled in the 1st, failing to convert a grounder to himself into a double play. He then gave up up a walk to load the bases followed by a 2-run single before striking out Michaels to end the first.

Lieber is crusing through our lineup.

We clearly don't want to win.

I mean, Glavine fucked up a sure double play ball in the first, leading to two runs, and our batters (outside of Reyes) have had largely pathetic at bats.

We're swinging too much at first pitches and letting a guy with a 4.81 ERA dominate us.

And now Looper gives up a dinger to Howard.

Rotblatt
Sep 01 2005 03:35 PM

Well, at least we played ONE meaningful game in September.

Not that I'm completely conceding the game, mind you, but a few of our guys will have to pony up if we want to come back and win it.

Beltran & Floyd are our most likely candidates out of our first three batters, but Floyd's been pressing lately and Beltran's just really inconsistent these days.

Once you get to the 9th inning at home there's no longer going to be a save situation. ="Frayed Knot"]Once you get to the 9th inning at home there's no longer going to be a save situation. So, unless you're under the impression that one of these call-ups is less likely than our supposed best reliever to give up a run, then you're decreasing the odds of coming back by bringing in someone other than Looper.

understood.

I would have shown the Phils someone they hadnt seen yet in that spot.

Damn, Wright was pissed about that strike, and maybe wrightly so.
Rarely see him like that.

Well, what started on a grand note has turned to sour grapes, and the Mets go from 1/2 out to 21/2 out of the wild card.

This was the series that could have put the Mets in the catbird seat, but the Phils play Sylvester to our Tweety

Ironical we lose the rubber game on the one day we weren't badly outpitched.

Poor starts in Games 1 and 2 about as troubling as the lack of O for me.

The Phils looked like the better team this week that;s for sure.

I think now is when I'd like to see Willie really lay into his players and upend a few tables.

Wagner's stuff is kinda filthy, isn't it?

it really was. Even more than usual.
i dont know if it was seeing him in the daylight or what.

But seeing him at all, as I have said, is never a good thing

LAst night, the Mets announcers were wondering how well Wagner would do if he had to be used today, because he threw a lot of pitches last night.

Phuck! That was ugly.

I guess Ill have to wait to see the blotched DP by Galvine on Baseball 2nite later.

Well, at least we played ONE meaningful game in September.

It'd be really nice if Beltran and Floyd haven't been utterly invisible the past few months.

Wright and, to a lesser extent, Reyes, can only carry this team so long. Likewise Mike Jacobs the God was never going to last. :(
