As in; Save Our Season

Anyway, Mets take 1-0 lead off Burnett in the 1st as a Beltran groundout drives in [u:a86f048d56]Matsui!!![/u:a86f048d56] who was on 3rd following a loooong triple to RCF.

Jae Seo on the mound

matsui has so much more upside than cairo, which is why i choose matsui if both of them are slumping.

KazMat stars in the bottom of the 1st also with 2 nice plays. Seo works around a 2-out walk to Cabrera to end the inning courtesy of a decent running catch of a foul ball by Cliff.

SPEED KILLS!

Castro uses his "speed" to create a run.
First he legs out a potential DP ball - thanks to a double-clutch by Castillo at 2nd ... and then scores standing all the way from 1st on a Diaz 2-out 2B - thanks largely to the fact that while Cabrera may be a terrific hitter he's an awful runner/OFer who failed to cut-off what was essentially a liner over SS.

Pierre's throw was pretty lame too.

Sep 04 2005 01:49 PM

Yeah, I wonder if those Yanqui fans who are drooling over John Peter as their next leadoff hitter/CFer realize that his arm is barely better than Bernie's. Or that his OBP is nothing to write home about these days also.

Seo dances around another walk & an infield single to toss a scoreless 2nd.

Ka-Boom for Cliffy over the center field fence!!!!

Frayed Knot
Sep 04 2005 01:58 PM

Cliffy goes bang-zoom with a laser over the CF fence following a gift 2-out IF single for Beltran.
Burnett isn't getting much help from his 'D' so far but we've also hit a few shots: Kaz, Cliff, Diaz

4-zip bottom 3

So much for Cliffy tiring...

ScarletKnight41
Sep 04 2005 02:02 PM

Seaver is doing his best Fran imitation, going on and on about Seo's confidence since coming back from Norfolk.

4-0 Mets after three.

Uno - Two - Tres for JWS in the 3rd

Encarnacion scores on a wild pitch.

4-1 Mets after four.

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 02:21 PM

Come on, quit being so damn pessimistic everybody. Cairo's not playing today, so you can come out from your caves.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 04 2005 02:24 PM

It's a gorgeous day up here Valadius. People may actually be out of their caves and enjoying the weather.

BTW, how is college life treating you?

ScarletKnight41
Sep 04 2005 02:30 PM

An RBI double by Mr. Wright drives in KazMat. 5-1 Mets in the fifth :)

Sep 04 2005 02:30 PM

man, that cabrera is one slow runner for being such a greeat young athlete. he looks like jason philips in the outfield.

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 02:42 PM

We've got the Seo Stopper on the mound.

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 02:46 PM

College life's good, except I haven't been able to get to the many parties that have occurred on campus.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 04 2005 02:46 PM

What's keeping you from them?

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 02:47 PM

Nobody invites me is the problem.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 04 2005 02:49 PM

What kind of a college is that? I thought that parties were more open, especially for freshmen.

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 02:51 PM

Yeah, I know, but I feel uncomfortable going somewhere that no one invited me to.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 04 2005 02:56 PM

Make friends with the hottest chick in your dorm (or if you must, 3rd or 4th hottest).

They will get invited to parties and take you.

Meanwhile, it's 5-1 Mets after six innings.

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 03:06 PM

5-1 Metsies through 6.

Sometimes it takes a while to find your rhythm in college. Don't worry...hang in there.

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 03:10 PM

If WWSB goes back to Cairo after today, I swear to God...

seawolf17
Sep 04 2005 03:13 PM

Ah, yes... hot chicks. Good times.

Agreed - I don't want to see Cairo back on the field unless it's the eighteenth inning and we're out of pitchers.

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 03:16 PM

I'd rather see Derek Bell on the mound than have to endure another day of Cairo at 2nd, batting 2nd.

seawolf17
Sep 04 2005 03:20 PM

Welcome to the big leagues, Marlins SS Robert Andino.

TheOldMole
Sep 04 2005 03:25 PM

Think this would make it in "Would you rather..."?

Would you rather go to a party with hot chicks or see Miguel Cairo starting at second?

Meanwhile, Hernandez in to start the 8th.

And I'll puke if I see that commercial where Joe and Willie give signs to each other again.

Sep 04 2005 03:27 PM

In out of town news, Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 35th home run of the year, tying him with Mickey Mantle for 12th on the all-time home run list with 536.

TheOldMole
Sep 04 2005 03:28 PM

Another close call for Minky -- first Met error in ten games. Not at a crucial moment.

TheOldMole
Sep 04 2005 03:40 PM

Kaz 3 for 5.

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 03:44 PM

Beltran singles home Reyes, 6-1 Metsies.

TheOldMole
Sep 04 2005 03:48 PM

And Wright follows with a neat piece of hitting. 7-1.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 04 2005 03:49 PM

Mr. Wright drives in KazMat again. Gotta love that boy.

Meanwhile, earlier in the game, the tv announcers (maybe Seaver, but I can't remember) commented that Matsui is playing like a man who wants to keep his job.

7-1 Mets in the 9th.

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 03:49 PM

Here's Manker at the plate.

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 03:50 PM

Dammit Manker!

Oh well, two more insurance runs for Looper.

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 03:54 PM

IIRC, Damion Easley was the biggest buyout in history a few years back.

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 03:55 PM

One out away, facing the rookie Andino.

ScarletKnight41
Sep 04 2005 03:58 PM

And it's a final. The Mets win!

Valadius
Sep 04 2005 03:59 PM

And that's game!

Sep 04 2005 03:59 PM

A good game. Let's hope it's the start of something.

But I wouldn't count on it.

Spent the afternoon working in the yard and enjoying the beautiful sunshine.

This thread was a fine capper to a wonderfaul day.

Glad to see Kaz Matsui finally get a chance. It sounds as if he did more good things today that Cairo has in the past week. Keep Kaz at second base, Willie.

couldnt make the scene and couldnt watch the game. I hate when its on TV and I cant watch it, but its one a those busy weekends.

I did see Floyds shot on ESPN earlier and THAT WAS A FROZEN ROPE!, baby. STRAIGHT CENTER! A recharged Floyd is just what we need so im glad he is proving me wrong about being tired and losing his punch. He's got that energy back, and we need it sooooo bad. If he stays charged thru September we will hang.

Matsui was big? Ill take it. And I hope he does play like he want his job, and contributes in a way that make us all forget the bumps in his road.

Seo does it again, and I wont even look at the downside that he shoulda been up with us all year. We are where we are and he's here now.

I am waiting to see the hilights of the entire game. Watchin Sportcenter now. Just saw the clips. Wright with his 36th double! YES.

Havent checked yet but I hope theres a BaseballTonight on ESPN soon
so maybe I get to see some extended coverage.

Looks like there was a small rooting section here, but at least some of you guys made it. (and i had a custom Kaboom all done up for Floyd, dagnabbitt----well, he'll just have to hit another one tomorrow.)

This was a much needed win.
Cripes, they all are from now on,lol.
Phils lost to Wash, and Phils will be playing Houston for 3 games, so this is a good opportunity to start movin up again. Someones gonna have to lose those games.
Trachsels outting vs Atlanta tomorrow is huge and I have my fingers crossed so hard that they are turning blue. I really hope for him to pitch as well as last time out.

heres some pics from todays game:

i was working all night, i missed from the 5th inning on...

nice to see that Roberto Hernandez isn't available for bases loaded vs. Cabrera but is available for mop-up duty in a 7-1 win...nice fuckin bullpen management there.
