Take that Fernando Ferrer you MFY lover...had a laugh reading this.

]August 31, 2005 -- The mayor's race turned into a subway-series slugfest between Bronx Yankee fan Fernando Ferrer and Queens Met booster Anthony Weiner yesterday.
Weiner claimed the Mets are the "clean team," while the Yankees are tainted because slugger Jason Giambi was on "the juice."

"The Mets are an offensive team the old-fashioned, natural way — we think," quipped Weiner, the Brooklyn-Queens congressman.

Ferrer shot back that Weiner can't be sure all Met players are pure.

"Have you checked the cups?" Ferrer said, referring to urine samples.

The Bronx debate started innocently enough before a housing event attended by the Democratic candidates, when The Post asked Ferrer - a diehard Yankee fan — about Giambi's and the Bombers' surge.

But then Weiner suddenly elbowed his way into the conversation, igniting a mini-debate.

Weiner needled Ferrer about Giambi's alleged steroid use. Ferrer said Giambi admitted to the transgression (according to reports of Giambi's testimony before a grand jury).

Weiner disagreed and Ferrer asked, "He never admitted it in front of the grand jury?"

Weiner shot back, "[Giambi] never came clean. He never has."

Meanwhile, Ferrer and Weiner joined housing advocates in touring "slumlord" apartments in The Bronx.

They were joined later in Harlem by Democratic rivals C. Virginia Fields and Gifford Miller to inspect a run-down apartment complex at 305 W. 150th St.

The building — owned by Hoshia Realty — had gaping holes and broken or missing light fixtures and construction debris left strewn inside.

One of the Bronx buildings — 2654 Valentine Ave. owned by Moshe Piller — had exposed pipes, peeling paint, broken mail boxes and vermin.

In a debaate last week Gifford Miller came out as a Yankee fan. C. Virginia Fields ducked the question. Bloomberg, as we know, is a Red Sox fan who seems to now embrace the Yankees.

Ergo, Weiner gets my vote. I don't know if we've ever had a Met-fan mayor.

C. Virginia Fields isn't going to be mayor of anything.

I've met the Weinerman and he's a fun guy when he gets going on the Mets.

Didn't Weiner come out very vocally during the "Mets on TV" fiasco this spring?

I just want NYC to have a mayor named "Weiner."

Actually Weiner was remarkably nonresponsive on the Met issue, I think in an attempt to make Mike look bad by his inaction. "This is an issue the Mayor should be responding to!!!"

However, thanks to writing him, I get what seem to be thrice-daily Weinerman Updates: WEINER TO WIPE ASS TODAY!

Gifford Miller is a MFY season-ticket holder, speaking of asswipes.
