My 12-year-old has been chosen to blow the Shofar at preschool holiday services :)

That's wonderful! It's really hard, though.

He can handle it. He plays the trumpet in band - it's the same kind of blowing.

What does this signify? Educate the goyim.

The Shofar is the ram's horn. It is a tradition to signal the new year (Rosh Hashanah) by blowing the Shofar.

Think of it as the first New Year's noisemaker ;)

Does he get to bring it home and practice?

We actually have Shofars in our home. And he's already practiced today (and very nicely, I might add).

And shofar, I'd bet he's doing a nishe job.

LOL seawolf - he thought that was funny :)

Seawolf - again demonstrates one of his(?) many talents, this one being able to produce gut-wrenching puns in multiple languages. :)

Loved it.

And what's too bad is that I didn't make it:

"And shofar, I'd shay he's doing a nishe job."

Sometimes I'm too quick even for myself.

BTW, my son did beautifully at this morning's childrens' services, and we'll go back later for the afternoon preschool services. It was one of the better Tekiah Gedolahs that I've ever heard (seriously).

An honor richly deserved.
