I hope the people that plunked down $20 for today's Mets-Cardinals ST game enjoy this lineup:

Castillo, 2b
Garcia, rhp
Murphy, lf
Tatis, 3b
Church, rf
Anderson, 1b
Schneider, c
Sullivan, cf
Coronado, ss.

I wonder if attendance and ratings of ST games will decline while the WBC is taking place. It wouldn't have been a bad idea for teams to cut ST ticket prices while the big names are away but baseball doesn't think like that.

Colby Rasmus cf
Joe Mather 3b
Albert Pujols 1b
Ryan Ludwick rf
Chris Duncan lf
Khalil Greene ss
Allen Craig dh
Jason LaRue c
Joe Thurston 2b
(Kyle Lohse p)

They should pay the fans $20.

Doesn't matter anyway since the whole baseball world will have its eyes focused on Tampa today because as you must have heard:
Derek Jeter is playing against the Yanquis!!!!

Yes, this afternoon as the USA squad plays an exibition game in George M. Steinbrenner Field, the OPPOSING SS will be none other than Mr. March-thru-November himself.

This is unprecedented folks. Not once in human history has such irony, such conflict, such je ne sais quois occurred. Why it's like Santa living at the south pole; like Arafat showing up a BINGO night at Temple Shalom; it's Paris Hilton at a MENSA meeting;it's cats and dogs living together; it's ...

OK, I'll stop now.

Thanks for the reminder to avoid all sports media today and tomorrow.

I think the clubhouse man should give number two to a Yankee scrubeenie

If the USA was serious about winning the WBC they'd be playing Rollins at short instead of Jeter.

Agree , I imagine that if Jeter was not starting there would be a huge media crush as to why he is not the starting SS . Jeter could of course easily downplay that the way Rollins has.

Garcia apparently has coughed up 2 HRs and is throwing his fb in the low 80s, not a good use of * mills if this keeps up.

Mets are down 6-zip

I was thinking the same thing.

Or maybe Brad Holt (if today's Daily News article is to be believed) will have a 1984 Dwight Gooden spring and force his way onto the team.

No, I'm not expecting that. But it would be more fun than giving the job to a veteran from some other team who put up an 8+ ERA last season.

Brad Holt is a poor bet to pull that off.

Gooden won that job by virtue of his 1983, moreso than his 1984 spring.

So much for my sweet Freddy Garcia jersey.

Then again, if he's willing to work out the kinks as a Bison, I have no problem with that.

As for the prices, I don't think people go to spring games necessarily to see the stars. It's baseball in March, which makes it all good.

There are lot of split squad games with even lesser talent, and there's no price break.

More shocking was paying $6.50 for a very small glass of Landshark beer and $38 for my sweet new game cap with Citi Field patch on the side -- blue, of course.
