Good God no!

Was our adolescent dream
Schoolboy stuff, a sticky sweet bro-mance
He’d make us cheer and scream
We knew he'd take advantage of the chance
So we fantasized away
And we’d be watching him,
Thinking of Seaver saying…

Good God yes!
Good God yes!
It's about goddamn time!
Good God yes, don't hurt him.

And his arm was strong as stone
The team was so bad, they couldn't stand to wait
Sent him out there all alone
Joe and Gorman had no problem tempting fate.

Watching close on channel 9
And you could've sworn, you saw him grab his elbow

Good God no!
Good God no!
Too cold in Chi-ca-go!
Good God no, you hurt him!

And it's a fanboy sadness
Each Met fan is gonna taste
An all-consuming madness
That we know we can't erase
Cause they‘ll finish in last place

We had our phenom at last
They promised us that this guy would be right
Our empty talent pool was vast
We were certain that this dude would end the blight
But then he walked Ken Reitz
And you could’ve sworn, you saw him grab him elbow

Good God no!
Good God no!
I hate your guts Torre!
Good God no, you broke him.

Joe Torre says ‘don’t wor-ry’
We’ve got Swan to take his spot
Although his fu-ture’s blurry
His career is far from shot
Maybe we can get Jim Kaat

Good God no!
Good God no!
We should’ve known better!
Good God no , he’s broken...

Good God no!
Good God no!
Gooden’s 3 years away,
Good God no, that’s too long…

That’s too long…
That’s too long…
That’s too long…

"Carry on, Craig Anderson"

Carry on, Craig Anderson!
ERA says, "You are done."
Lay your weary arm to rest,
Don't you try no more.

For the Cards, it was rare when I was outdone.
I was picked by the Mets after expansion.
Who'd ever think I'd be retired?
By nineteen sixty-five??

Though my eyes saw my career was in the can.
Though my brain said I'd be pitching in Japan.
I hear the voices at Shea screaming,
To this very day!

Carry on, Craig Anderson!
Casey said that you are done.
Lay your weary arm to rest,
Don't you fire no more.

Then it happened seemingly without a reason.
My defeats would pile up the whole season.
Pat on the butt from Choo-Choo Coleman, well,
Nothing helps me no more!

Rifle on my arm felt more like an air gun.
Sixteen in a row! Thank God for Anthony Young!
All season long it was my June swoon.
Oh, man, I stunk it up at Shea!

Carry on, Craig Anderson!
ERA says, "You are done."
Lay your weary arm to rest.
Don't you fire no more. No!

Anderson! A name you won't remember!
Anderson! Maybe best as a non-tender!
The fans would cry, "Oh, the humanity!"
But I knew not what the hell to do!

Carry on, Craig Anderson!
Casey says that you are done.
Lay your weary arm to rest
Don't you try no more (don't you try no more!)

Oof. Not obvious enough? Sorry.

Why did you think Zachry?

Uncle!

Congrats to Seo, the championship match is now set, may the best parodiest (parodier?) win.

Soup: Championship-level play with Tim Leary. Gave me the same chills I had living through the misery of 1981.

Seo: You made Craig Anderson's career come alive. Congrats and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Off to train for the title match...

Injuries, Seaver/Torre references-- went with the injury-prone guy I actually knew from that era. The Leary hype was a touch before my time (which began the year of the Keith trade), and a little under my retrospective radar.

Wow! Outstanding frm both parties.

I went with Soup because Leary is just so painful.
