The Mets likely have 13 slots set for hitters, as they typically do. Twelve are solid, but let's say 11 and assume Anderson still has to fight to stay alive. Locks: Castro Schneider Castillo Cora Delgado Murphy J. Reyes Wright Beltran Church Tatis Favorites for the last two spots: Anderson Reed Other contenders for the last two spots (in estimated order of likelihood): Kielty Sullivan Pagan Mackowiak Evans R. Martinez F. Martinez Green Valentin Cancel Abreu Coronado Santos Thole My basic rule is that outfielders seem to have the advantage over infielders as the roster currently aligns, and infielders the advantage over catchers, but they have a lot of flexibliity with Murphy and Tatis on the roster to play outfield but perfectly capable of sliding in at either corner infield slot. Vets have the advantage over prospects, but rehabbing vets --- Pagan, Valentin --- a little less so. Guys like Valentin and Green and Ramon Martinez really have a boost in that Cora remains the only backup middle infielder, though the Mets certainly might experiment with Murphy at second. If Murph shows up and looks sloppy at the keystone this spring --- or Wright takes a comical turn at short --- look for the odds on those guys to rise.

Cranepoolers were seen making their way down to the bookies where the betting was heavy on what player would be the Mets 13th man. Favorites for the last two spots: Anderson - 3/5 - taking heavy money that Anderson will be cut before camp breaks. Is Aregenis Reyes still Met property / in camp? figure he would have some chance given how often Jerry pencilled him into the lineup last year. I think Ramon Martinez and Pagan will get the last two spots, and I hope Kielty can be stored in Buffalo.

Reed is supposed to be a great fielder so the team will need him as a late inning defensive replacement for either Murphy or Tatis. My money is on Reed to make the team.

I don't even think A. Reyes is in big league camp. The only reason he got any time last year was because Anderson was hurt and Omar hadn't loaded up sufficiently on reserves. I'd say Ramon Martinez and maybe Jose Coronado have passed him by, not to mention Cora, Murphy and Anedrson who could also play 2B if they had to.

Reyes was non-tendered. According to his wikipedia page, he was later re-signed to a minor league contract, but I've seen no note of it elsewhere, nor any note that he was in camp.

Martinez or A. Reyes. We won't see either one of them unless someone gets hurt (like when Castillo fell apart late last year). I'm hoping one of the OFers has a good enough ST with all the regulars out WBC-ing to force himself into a job and oust Marlon. Of course, he's said a lot of things publicly, but let's assume we can trust him on this, for argument's sake. If that's the case, we've got three spots with which to play. Anderson's spring seems to have bought him at least a few months of goodwill (in the Met system of management loyalty, it seems you have to play your way OUT of the roster)... and an almost-guaranteed slot. I'll write him in hard pencil for one slot, as a 1B/2B/OF emergency option. The other two? While OFs have the edge, certain OFs have more of one. Therefore, I put HEAVY action-- 500+ Seavers-- on Reed, as he's the only CF backup with Pagan shelved. I keep the fifty or so El Sids I plopped on Kielty as the other guy (since Tatis at this point is an IF/OF swing option). Early favorites Marlon Anderson and Jeremy Reed are your leaders as we approach the wire. But if the Mets follow through on the four-starter plan, Paddy may be forced to pay up on Nick Evans also. Congrats to Bobby Kielty and Ramon Martinez, who still staying in the mix. If your betting ticket has their names, don't crumble it up yet.
