Let's do the annual CPF Tournament Challenge.

1) Get a Yahoo ID if you need one.
2) Go to fantasysports.yahoo.com.
3) On the right side of the screen, under "Fantasy Games" click on Tournament Pick 'Em '09. (Get here directly via tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com)
4) Click Join a Group
5) Click Join Group
6) Type In The Group ID (14098) and password (abordick).
7) From there the directions will help you create and fill out a bracket, though Selection Sunday isn't for two weeks...
8) ...but when the time comes, just choose UConn to win it all and Syracuse to lose in the first round and you're all set.

One questions:
I haven't decided on a scoring system, I'll probably use the default (whatever that is) but let me know if you have a super-cool way to do it. I can never decide.

I'm in when the time comes.

I believe the loss of Dyson, will eventually catch up with UConn in the later rounds of the tournament. I just don't think they'll have enough offense to prevail against the best teams game after game. As much as it pains me (as a Duke fan) to say so, I believe that the UNC Tarheels have the best team in the country. Carolina is getting stronger too, as they just got 7' freshman sensation Tyler Zeller back from a broken wrist.

UNC is certainly no shoe in to win the title, but I believe they are the front runner in a pack of 7-8 teams that have legitimate chances to win the tournament.

You didn't miss anything. They don't even set up the bracket until this coming Sunday. Some over-excited shlub got this started early.

Pitt's the perfect team to beat UConn. A guy with a well-polished inside game that's strong enought will eat Thabeet for breakfast because Thabeet is still just a giant without a developed game. With a big guy who can cancel out Thabeet, UConn's guards have to really pick up the slack, and as Rockin Doc says without Dyson they probably don't have the horses to consitently beat the other elite teams. Besides all that Pitt is probably just better. And I hate Pitt.

But UConn can smoke a team like Louisville because they were terrified to come inside on Thabeet. So I'm hoping UConn will only face the Louisville-type teams in the tourney.

The nationally ranked teams are dropping like flies in their conference tournaments.

West Virginia beat Pittsburgh handily in the Big East tournament. In the Big 12 conference chaos reigns as top seed Kansas is beaten by Baylor and second seed Oklahoma falls to in state rival Oklahoma State. The Georgia Tech Yellowjackets finished last in the ACC regular season with a conference record of 2-14. Today they surprised the Clemson Tigers and sent them home to South Carolina to lick their wounds.

Rockin' Doc
Mar 13 2009 04:22 AM

UConn joins the list of fallen giants after losing an epic game to Syracuse in 6 overtimes.

Who will be the next to fall? UNC, Michigan State, Wake Forest, and Duke all begin play in their conference tournaments today.

Nymr83
Mar 13 2009 07:58 AM

UConn will have a shot at redemption in the tournament though, they're locks to make it.

My prediction: The Big East will send 8 teams to the tournament: Louisville, Pittsburgh, Villanova, Connecticut, Marquette, and Syracuse were already locks. West Virginia probably was going already but they improved their seeding with a big win last night and will go as well. Providence could have made it official if they'd beat Louisville but I still think they'll be the 8th BE team.

Rockin' Doc
Mar 13 2009 08:13 AM

I agree with you on the other seven teams from the Big East, but I wouldn't be packing my bags to quickly if I was Providence.

A few teams could get left out if surprise teams win automatic bids by winning their conference tournaments.

Not that any of you really care, but Duke wins the ACC tournament!! Duke torched Florida State early with a 20-3 run and then coasted to victory.

Duke has now won 8 of the past 11 ACC tournaments. The Blue Devils 28-6 record and ACC Tournament title should sew up a solid #2 seed for Duke when the NCAA pairings are announced later today.

Yes, but now they have to face the Binghamton juggernaut that just ran ramshackle over the America East. No way Duke wins by more than 40 or 50.

Rockin' Doc

A rare game in which Duke should have a size advantage. One of my partners is originally from Binghamton, I wonder if I can get a bet out of her.

Methead
Mar 15 2009 08:32 PM

I'm surprised they put Syracuse at a #3 seed. I was hoping for a #4... but I guess when you take into account their wins against Kansas, Florida, and Memphis... plus the epic UConn victory, it makes some sense considering how important RPI rankings are to the committee.

Bring on Stephen F. Austin!

SUNY Albany (same division as Binghamton and only a couple years removed from being a Div-3 school) gave #1 seed UConn a scare in the first round a few years ago - as in they were winning by double-digits 8 minutes into the 2nd half. Then, of course reality set in and everyone remembered who and where they were and the Huskies won by about a dozen.
So maybe Bingo has a chance not to suck too bad.

There is, you probably missed a game or didn't hit save at some point. Make sure you picked a winner of the championship game, that screwed me up at first. Also make sure you filled in a tie-breaker. And be sure to hit save each time you fill out a section.

To further figure out what you missed: Under the page that says "My Groups and Brackets", click on the name of your bracket (I'm guessing yours is RockinDoc). The page that pops up will have the names of all the regions and "Semis & Finals". If the region is complete, it will have a check next to it. Always hit "Save and Continue" when filling out a region.

As a last resort you can just post the picks of the games you missed and I can keep score manually.

I've been out of town this weekend so I never got to check on the reason for my bracket being incomplete. I apparently failed to pick a team in the first round game between Michigan and Clemson. It only cost me one game, not that it matters. I'm quite sure that I am well off the pace in the CPF bracket challenge.
