4 runs in the bottom of the first off Maine. Is it still too early to worry?

I don't know. How'd his side session go?

To his credit, his next three innings were scoreless.

Castillo, Church and Sneider are the three regulars in the lineup.

No, it's not. Though, he's more or less been a worry for the last 12 months.

Maine got his last 9 hitters so maybe he figured something out. Connor Robertson has pitched well, though he has no chance of making the team.

It's encouraging that Maine finished a lot better than he started. I'd like to see a good start all the way through next time before I decide I'm not concerned.

I wouldn't assume Robertson can't make the team, given that two spots are up for grabs. A bad outing or an injury by one of the guys ahead of him in the pecking order could put him in the mix. I do like the idea of having multiple relievers in Buffalo who won't kill you if you promote them, though.

Ahead of Robertson in the pecking order are a guy who impressed last year and has no minor-league options remaining (Stokes), two Rule V guys (O'Day and Cherry), a couple of guys with spot-start/long-relief experience (Figueroa and Knight) and a younger version of the first guy who has a 97-mph fastball with late sink and in whose successful development the organization has a vast interest (Parnell).

While I'll grant your point about it being foolhardy to make assumptions about these sorts of things without having been privy to the actual behind-doors decision-making process, it would probably take one hell of a PSL taxi accident to get Robertson on the major-league roster for Opening Day.

There's still plenty of time to sort this out: the Mets have 18 practice games left. This ST season is so long that it should have an all-star break.
