Mets in a family way

metsguyinmichigan

I was thinking on the way home tonight....

If Livan Hernandez makes the roster, both he and his half-brother would be Mets at one time.

Other than Tom Glavine and Mike Glavine's fantasy camp-like appearance, have we had any other brothers be Mets, even not at the same time?

Then I came up with brothers Sandy and Roberto Alomar - does Sandy Sr. make the only father-son(s) combinations?

Any other brother or father/son combos?

It's a little known fact that Bobby Jones and Bobby Jones are
distantly related back to the 1860's.

I think Orlando is off the books.

Anyhow John Kevin Maine is the son of Kevin John Maine, among other father/sonnie stuff.

Also, it seems Mookie's brother John played in the Mets' system at about the same time his brother was flying around Shea's basepaths.

Moises Alou and Uncle Jesus.

Mookie is actually Preston's stepdad.

Juan and Amado Samuel are not related.

Moises Alou was his own grandpa.

(And Jesus' nephew.)

By that, you mean literally "Jesus," the biblical figure, not "Jesus," the outfielder.

(Although I don't know what position Biblical Jesus would have played. Probably shortstop.)

Being the "Alpha and Omega", Jesus should be available for both starting and closing duty. (Think Smoltz, but with longer beard/shorter healing time.)

Moises Alou is only about 40 years younger than God, so who knows?

I remember years ago somebody (I think it was Centerfield) posted a scouting report on Jesus that was hilarious.

Edgy DC
Mar 11 2009 08:37 PM

Actually, it was Rottblatt. The immediate context was a shiney prospect report from John Sickels on this hot young kid the Mets had at the time called David Wright. I wonder whatever happened to him.

The broader context was mlb.com publishing a bunch of scouting combine reports full of descriptions of "well-proportioned upper body" and "powerful thighs tapering nicely into lean calves" that, when read one after another, became hard to distinguish and came out really homo-erotically.

How the hell do you people find this stuff?

Reminds me a bit of the time we were concocting self-evaluations in response to the thumb-nail bios you get of amateur players on draft day.

The Sickels link was interesting too and, except for being a bit optimistic on the defensive skills, nailed young David pretty good. True he was already in the upper minors which takes a lot of the projection out of it but there are still enough misses in those to not make this one a no-brainer.

Sounds pretty dead on to me. Got everything right except for the propensity to throw the ball away when he has too much time.

Look, anyone who can read a boxscore can point out that Centerfield's numbers are down, ok? But we're talking about a guy who has had big posts in big spots. He's been yuge, YUGE for the CPF. The Jesus post, Latvia, you know, countless others. So everyone can put their protractors away, I know what I see. Let's go to Edgy in DC.

Actually Mike, that was Rottblatt. The Jesus post was Rotblatt.

You're saying that wasn't Centerfield? Because I read that thread. I was there for it, I...

I have the thread in front of me. That was Rotblatt. Centerfield didn't get involved until four posts later, and then, all he said was that Rotblatt's post was really funny...

See what I mean? Anytime you have a classic moment like that, CF is right in the middle of things. Big time poster.

Makes the other posters better Mikey, makes the other posters better.
