I think I've done this before, but here's a list of former Mets players who played in the big leagues in 2007 but not in 2008. There are some whom we know have formally retired. Others, though, may just be in the process of fading away. There are 31 such players. But for falling down the stairs Tom Martin might have made it back with the Mets this season. That Ben Johnson never did a damn thing did he? I remember there been modest expectations for the guy but nothing.

Sandy Alomar (New York Mets) - retired. Coaching, right? Jeff Conine (New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds) - retired. Julio Franco (New York Mets, Atlanta Braves) - retired, managing in minors Shawn Green (New York Mets) - retired Timo Perez (Detroit Tigers) - in camp with Detroit, I believe Jason Phillips (Toronto Blue Jays) - just played a week on Letterman Mike Stanton (Cincinnati Reds) - in camp with someone (San Francisco?) Victor Zambrano (Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles) - played for VZ in the WBC, I think, but hasn't signed anywhere
