Anyone feel like NL-only?

I created an NL-only league for another web forum I'm on. Last year, they had one official 12-team mixed roto league and I was one of many who was bummed to miss out on it. This year, I made an NL-only league and coordinated with the commish of last year's mixed league to make the announcement, and only a few people signed up for my NL league. I'd like to have 12 teams, so if anyone here is up for it, you're welcome to sign up. In keeping with the example set by the commish of the mixed league, I'll pony up for 2 $25 Amazon gift certificates: one for the winner, one for most improved after the All-Star Break.

tl;dr - NL only league with prizes. You in?

Send me a private message if you're interested.

We could still use more managers. I really don't want to open this league up to the hordes at yahoo, but I just don't have enough teams yet.

we won't at any point open the league up to strangers. but everyone who has joined feel free to invite someone you know now.

EDIT- my apologies to willpie. i confused this thread for the CPF forum league thread. i wasn't trying to tell you what to do with your league.

I will post the link on the boards for the other leagues I am in. The prizes should serve as incentive to join (it worked for me).

I love NL-only and the prizes were just an added bonus

Motion seconded.
Anyway, the draft is coming up and we still only have 7 teams. the yahoo league ID # is 75076 and the password is tator.
Join if you're interested; it'll be fun. Did I mention prizes?

Sure. I suspect we'll get one more too -- most leagues that get posted only will get you prizes if you buy in. This is a sweet deal, you're a good egg to put up the booty.

Any more room at the NL-only inn? My deep ML-universe league ended up satisfying from a value standpoint (A-Rod in early fourth round, to go with a bunch of young, speed-and-power types in Kinsler and the Uptons), but not from a Met-brain perspective (not a single token Met fell to me).

A day late and no dollars short. Sorry bud, we drafted just last night.

When you play NL only your last few hitters and pitchers would be best described as, um, "turds."

Here's my lineup, I am quite happy with much of my hitters and all of my staff.

1. (6) Ryan Howard 1B
2. (19) Matt Kemp OF
3. (30) Garrett Atkins 1B,3B
4. (43) Ryan Ludwick OF
5. (54) Adam Wainwright SP
6. (67) José Valverde RP
7. (78) Ryan Dempster SP
8. (91) Kazuo Matsui 2B
9. (102) Fred Lewis OF
10. (115) Chris Carpenter SP
11. (126) Ramón Hernández C
12. (139) Chris Volstad SP
13. (150) Cristian Guzmán SS
14. (163) Leo Núñez RP
15. (174) Josh Anderson OF
16. (187) Rafael Soriano RP
17. (198) Bronson Arroyo SP
18. (211) Travis Ishikawa CI
19. (222) Tommy Hanson SP
20. (235) Anderson Hernández MI
21. (246) Micah Owings SP
22. (259) Andrew McCutchen OF
23. (270) Joe Mather OF
24. (283) John Baker C
25. (294) Steve Pearce OF

I just realized that I don't own a single Met, only castoffs like Matsui and A-Hern.

In an NL-only, that's exceedingly difficult to do. Um, congrats?

That said, Arroyo, Owings, Ishikawa and Baker were nice value picks.

Out of curiosity, where did Jordan Schaefer go?

He went late (first pick of round 23). I considered him as a handcuff to Anderson but ended up trying to find guys I thought were more likely to break into starting lineups, like McCutchen.

Invaluable to me were ESPN's team by team depth charts, just to comb out all the names of starting position players and likely rotation candidates.

I made a few frustrating mistakes (which I always do), but my team's not horrible:
1. (9) Carlos Beltrán OF
2. (16) Carlos Lee OF
3. (33) Chipper Jones 3B
4. (40) Joey Votto 1B
5. (57) Ryan Doumit C
6. (64) Ricky Nolasco SP
7. (81) Jorge Cantú 1B,3B
8. (88) Rickie Weeks 2B
9. (105) Yunel Escobar SS
10. (112) Jair Jurrjens SP
11. (129) Jonathan Sánchez SP
12. (136) Mike Pelfrey SP
13. (153) J.J. Putz RP
14. (160) Brian Giles OF
15. (177) Jon Rauch RP
16. (184) Seth Smith OF
17. (201) Eric Hinske 1B,OF
18. (208) Jeff Baker 1B,2B,3B
19. (225) Jeff Keppinger 3B,SS
20. (232) Merkin Valdez RP
21. (249) Scott Olsen SP
22. (256) Barry Zito SP
23. (273) Pedro Feliz 3B
24. (280) Shawn Hill SP
25. (297) Mark Loretta 2B,3B

I definitely wanted a couple more power/speed guys to go with Beltran, but this isn't a terrible start.
Also: Shawn Hill signed with the Padres and not the Blue Jays. That should work out for me until his arm falls off again.

Did I mention I'm loving Pelfrey this year? I was so pumped when I got him, but now I'm worried that if he gets hurt or starts to suck, I'm going to be double disappointed.

No closers... though some will pop up during the season, Putz and Rauch both looking like 8th inning guys on their respective teams.

In NL only I feel like you have to have at least one guy who is going to not get yanked out of that slot. Hopefully Valverde is that guy for me.

Re: Anyone feel like NL-only?

Woo hoo for me! A 20 point bump from the halfway point (thanks, Tommy Hanson) means I'm looking at a cool $25 Amazon GC for most improved 2nd half!

And that will be the extent of my "winnings" this year in fantasy baseball. Looking forward to the CPF-exclusive NL only for 2010.
