New Mets promotion I'm proud to say I had a hand in creating. Details [url=http://faithandfear.blogharbor.com/blog/_archives/2009/4/1/4140161.html:3lf6yy0v]here[/url:3lf6yy0v].

HAFD to you too.

I wasn't even asked to be on the committee.

Figures that for an AFD prank, Greg puts a LOT more thought and effort into the execution than the Mets actually seem to do for real promotions.

Le sigh.

Sean Green nixed you. Said you were too close to Heilman.

I have to admit that I fell for the prank. What was I thinking? And where can I get a Met bobblehead of Anthony Young, because now I want one.

Same place you get this guy

Shit, this would be amazing. Replace Davey in 1988 with Kevin McReynolds, Bonilla in 1992 with Sid Fernandez, and Izzy in 1995 with Bobby Jones and this would be the most awesome thing in the history of things. You're my hero, Greg.

I can see Mac in '88, but I wanted Davey to get his due. Sid and Jones aren't particularly identified with those seasons and I wanted to avoid shoehorning, though each has a claim to some slice of Mets history. I'm hoping in 2010, after the incredible popularity of Mets History Miniature Bobblehead Year at Citi Field, that I can talk the team into holding a sequel.

You have to take pretend things seriously or they fall apart on close inspection.

True. But now I'm actually mad at the Mets for not doing this promotion.

It's hard to argue with Gooden in 1985, but in the AFD spirit I would have moved Gooden to 1984, given 1986 to Keef, and saved 1985 for Sidd Finch.

I know what you mean. I fell for the well-written gag, probably because I wanted it to be true. Did I ever tell you that at first read, I also believed the Sidd Finch piece?

Dammit, Prince.

I was mentally rearranging the basement baseball room to make room for well-deserved tributes to Lenny Randle and Anthony Young before realizing the joke.

Would have been so cool, too.

Okay. So what number will Roger Craig be wearing? How about a hologram on his uniform that shifts back and forth from 38 to 13? (I would've liked Throneberry, myself, but that's just my preference, not criticism).

Gotta be 13. Just gotta be.

We wuz gonna give Marv a bobblehead. But we wuz afraid he'd drop it.

The really funny part

This would actually have been an awesome promotion. Who wasn't reaching for their wallet before the AFD radar kicked in?

No longer the new guy... does this mean I get to haze him?

I want Combos, every flavor of Big League and Carmex lip balm-- the cream and the clear-- in your bullpen bag, rook.

(Pleased to have you aBordick.)

Welcome abordick.

Now. Time for rookie hazing.
Climb up on that virtual table in the middle of the room and sing your school's fight song.

(One of these days, someone might actually do it)
