SNY is producing a broacast (even if we can't see it) because of their need to rebroadcast the game later.

Does this mean that MLB.tv customers are the only ones to see the game live? (Or are they blacked out too?)

G-Fafif
Apr 11 2009 04:03 PM

mets.com says mlb.tv will JIP.

On the radio, oh-oh.

hilariously, the bloke in ireland is able to watch it.
only saw 2 of livian's 4 batters but for the final out he fielded a very hard hit shot straight back at him with ease.
Just before that Cantu had hit what would have been a 2 run BOMB about 20 feet foul down the left hand line.

Wright going into the fifth game with no RBI is no big deal per se, but when Howie (on that thing with the knobs and the speakers) mentioned all the baserunners he's had in scoring position with no scoring yet...no, still no big deal.

But still...

duan
Apr 11 2009 04:54 PM

schnieder just won't hit that much will he.

Creative what SNY is doing ... boxing on an small screen to the left and a
play by play thing with bases, score, and outs and a note thta they can't
come on until 7:05. Even the commercial are in the small inset. Bravo.

I'm a little more concerned about leaving enough men on base to play the Heat in a pickup game (with coaches).

Nice job by Livan to get out of trouble there.

Now starring Livan Hernandez!

Maybe Howie would like it if the guys that bat before Wright were a collective oh-for-the-season. Then Wright's BA with RISP wouldn't be zero, or anything, really.

(What a dumb stat).

Indeed. Although I wouldn't have minded a "Fox, Florida and Flo Rida have taken baseball from you" scrolling text-block.

G-Fafif
Apr 11 2009 05:10 PM

"Whaddaya know about that? A hit with a runner in scoring position," Howie answers.

Hey, the radio is still on and it's after 7:05!

Hooray Jose. Keep it moving now, Murphy.

Doubled off on a hit that's the very idea of perfect contact: a line drive up the middle. Baseball is a funny game.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Apr 11 2009 05:14 PM

Why we love Gary, Part 135:

KEITH: (Over a shot of Luis Alicea clearing Jose Reyes' RBI-double-shattered bat) "That bat is dead."

(pause)

GARY: "That bat died a hero."

Not to mention the drop in Murphy's BA with RISP!

Wright makes an outstanding payback double play that I can't see through the radio.

batmagadanleadoff
Apr 11 2009 05:20 PM

Howie's worried. Delgado is oh for one againsts Nolasco for the entire season. That's an .000 BA.

Nolasco hasn't thrown a non-hanging curve since the game came on Snigh... and he's thrown a handful of Charlies.

batmagadanleadoff
Apr 11 2009 05:22 PM

Delgado walks, thus failing to raise his BA against Nolasco. It's still .000.

Church doubles, with a man who cannot be doubled up on first, and Brian Schneider-- a man who, as a hitter, makes an excellent sac bunter-- coming up... and Beltran is held at third. Um... WHAT?

Church seems to be responding well to Manuel's inspiration method of fucking with him as much as possible.

batmagadanleadoff
Apr 11 2009 05:31 PM

Schneider grounds out -- pitcher to first - to end the inning. I give the inning's goat horns to Church. In the ever important race to lead the league in BA w RISP, Church's double set the stage for the weak-hitting Schneider to fail, and lower the Mets already low BA w RISP.

Point taken, batmags.

Really abusing Rose there for a pretty innocuous statement of fact. The Mets had only one hit with men in scoring position so far. That's all he was saying.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr

I think Keith just coined Livan's Met nickname right there:

Livan "Dangerously" Hernandez? (It works when he's working... or not.)

Do they calculate Runs left is scoring Position by unaggresive third base coaches who can't remember there are 2 outs?

Dramatic today? Alas, poor batting average with runners in scoring position, I knew it well.

Keith makes an interesting point: Murph's swing = Pete Rose's swing? (Never saw it before... but I definitely see it now.)

batmagadanleadoff
Apr 11 2009 05:53 PM

This is a nice sign. Of all the Mets that may reasonably be expected to have a huge impact this season, Delgado entered the season as the biggest questionmark. He doesn't look like a questionmark so far. No question.

G-Fafif
Apr 11 2009 05:54 PM

Mex invokes the "when I was playing card" to suggest Johan '09 = Doc '85 and a chance to take series.

To which I say, shush Keith, this one ain't yet nearly in the kip.

Church REALLY can't handle lefties-- obviously, Tatis would've homered right there. Sheffield would've homered twice.

(Maybe Manuel saw something in Church's psych profile that suggested fucking with him publicly would be a good idea.)

Who's this Castillo guy?

G-Fafif
Apr 11 2009 06:06 PM

Television cameras, when turned on and beaming signals in the first inning, obviously steal Luis Castillo's soul. He plays much better in games that aren't all that televised.

To Maybin's credit, he showed some actual concern for Jose after the play.
