No wonder he plays at Citi Field.

Experiencing my annual warm and fuzzy that the black uni tops are back. Won't care that much by next month, always returns me to '99 and '00 when I see them for the first time every year.

The stupid inaugural patch is such an eye sore...

Offense, check. Livan, check. Steady as she goes with a 3-0 lead. YOU CAN DO IT!

No. 9 Dream Omir Santos? That would be swell.

Can we please not play the 'let's score multiples in the 1st inning but never again' game tonight?

themetfairy
Apr 17 2009 06:39 PM

I generally like the black unis. But the pizza patch looks especially bad against the black background.

themetfairy

Fuck! Milwaukee takes the lead on a homer off of Livan.

I felt the same thing. My son and I were both on our feet, high-fiving.

Apr 17 2009 07:48 PM

What they didn't say was that Sheff told the team he's buying everyone an
expensive watch when he hits it.

Interesting teammate reaction, most of it seemed really quite genuine.

Fman99

Holy wasted opportunities. Can someone please get a hit with runners on base?

Fman99
Apr 17 2009 08:09 PM

Well then.

Kong76
Apr 17 2009 08:11 PM

Leaving the bases loaded three times in a game to end an inning is hard to do.

metirish
Apr 17 2009 08:12 PM

A disgraceful display of hitting with RISP by the Mets.

Kong76
Apr 17 2009 08:16 PM

Little early in the year for disgrace for my taste.

Nice leadoff gapper by Delgado. Three chances to plate him. Let's Go Mets!

Fuck that. Jerry has to start figuring in the dismal success rate of the sacrifice oppoirtunities of this team. They play with 2 outs every damn inning.

Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Apr 17 2009 08:26 PM

at least the Pods came back from being down 7-1 to be the Phils (in Philly), now I feel a little better about our opening-the-new-home series loss.

Here comes Omir Santos into the books.

Waitaminit!
The game isn't over. Its 10:48 Eastern time, and Yahoo is still showing it a 4-4 game in the seventh inning.

I was at work, and it was like being in a time warp.

I got into my car in time to hear Sheffield's homer.

Thank you Luis.

It was a terrific turn at bat. I was out running. Wayne Hagin who I like only sometimes really handled the call well, particularly the build-up. I could see Sheff adjusting his timing right and there was enough edge to Hagin that I felt he might just do it.

Hey, hell. Congrats to Gary. He's been an excellent pickup -- the kind of real bench threat this team hasn't had since... uh... Tony Clark?

Edgy DC
Apr 17 2009 10:19 PM

Tony Clark.

I'm just getting back from the symphony. How does 13 hits and seven walks = only five runs?

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Apr 17 2009 10:34 PM

Bunting!

That and a bad night for Beltran.

Edgy DC
Apr 17 2009 10:54 PM

Yeah, six lobbies is suckaphonic. I'm playing around with a plan to move him to second and Murphy to sixth before he becomes the forgotten man, but it's not playing out.

I was def more jazzed over the fact that it tied the game than I was about any 500th stuff.

Plus I think there was barely a ground-swell for a curtain-call. More like Sheffield (who was obviously enjoying the moment) reacted to the still-buzzing crowd and took one anyway. I'm sure there were some fans who wanted one (hell, they've been conditioned to expect one for almost every HR) but it's not like the crowd was going to grow restless - a la Beltran 4 years ago - if he didn't take one.

BTW, I think I made a new Mets fan. 22F friend of mine came over on the way to a party and caught the 9th inning. Lots of happy yelling and jumping around my apartment ensued.

Her: "Is it always like this?"
Me: "Yes. Yes, it is."

Swan Swan H
Apr 18 2009 09:06 AM

The timing of the homer, pulling the team back from what had all the makings of another score early, try to run out the clock and lose late loss, had something to do with the fans response as well. Any of the other 24 guys would have gotten called back out there, I'd think.

Others said it earlier, but I concur - it's nice to see a guy who can actually hit step out of the dugout when the Mets really need a hit. Enough with the Ice Williams, Ramon Martinez and Chip Ambres.

Edgy DC
Apr 18 2009 10:58 AM

Did somebody just disrespect Chp Ambres?

Swan Swan H
Apr 19 2009 06:57 AM

I think actually being remembered at this stage is about as much respect as he's gonna get.
