SWEEP THE LEG, JOHNNY

On the postgame Jerry tells us Figgy will get the start tomorrow.

I wonder if this means they lose O'Day.

If so, I'd almost rather give Stokes a spot start or something. I don't know if O'Day is all that, but he seems to be a useful part and I wouldn't want to just cast him away because of a one-day need for a starter.

BG--I agree with you but O'Day has been DFA'd. Since O'Day is a Rule V guy, he's gone unless the Angels agree to trade him so he can stay w/the Mets.

I'm on the Omir Santos Bandwagon. The way Scheeid has looked -- ever since we got him -- and the fact that he's injured already and in the final year of his deal makes me think the Mets needn't spare his feelings anymore and have to be ready to look around.

Santos is 27, had an excellent spring and so far looks like he knows what he's doing. I'm not suggesting he's any kind of threat to be a longterm answer but this could be a big opportunity for him.

Agreed, he was kinda hurt from day 1. Looking back with Lastings regressing and Church really a #4 outfielder it was a garbage in/out trade

Omar can get a catcher off-season..Astros have soured on J.R. Towles

Innings? Or runs?

Citi Field does seem to be playing, so far, like a great big pitcher's park.

Santos just doubled to DEEP center.

Never mind, indeed. My answer to Rogers makes no sense since he changed his post.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 01:18 PM

Now Santos has a triple too.

And he knocks Suppan out of the game.

Swan Swan H
Apr 19 2009 01:18 PM

'Bucket, any room left on that Santos bandwagon?

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 01:22 PM

Hardy kicks a grounder by Jose, and Santos comes home to score.

Reyes is the tying run at first with one out in the 7th.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 01:28 PM

Now Murphy has singled Reyes to second and Wright is up.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 01:29 PM

Walked him!

Bases loaded, one out, Carlos Delgado!

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 01:34 PM

drat.

A 1-2-3 (or perhaps a 1-2-4) double play ends the inning.

Mets get one, though, and are down by 1 with two innings to go.

apmorris
Apr 19 2009 01:34 PM

fock.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 01:50 PM

Mets trying another rally.

Beltran leads off the 8th with a single, then Sheffield walks.

Tatis comes up. Brewers announcers thinking he'll bunt.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 01:51 PM

He hasn't had a successful sacrifice bunt since 2002.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 01:51 PM

Looks like he's not bunting. Good! I prefer the 3-run homer.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 01:53 PM

Tatis strikes out.

Santos up.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 01:54 PM

Come on, Omir! There's still room on the bandwagon!

Count now at 2-0. Reed in the on-deck circle. Frankie Rodriguez throwing in the pen.

Swan Swan H
Apr 19 2009 01:57 PM

Auggghhh. Santos smoked that one, but hit Hall smack in the glove.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 01:57 PM

Ouch! Santos smoked a line drive to third with the runners going (on 3-2) and it's an easy double play.

Inning over.

Mets get one more shot to score a run. Pitcher's spot will lead off the ninth.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 01:58 PM

Huh! Me and Swan Swan both use the same verb.

Swan Swan H
Apr 19 2009 02:03 PM

The Sons of Joe Schulz, we are.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 02:04 PM

Brewers announcers are killing (I'm exaggerating) Jerry over the lack of the bunt. If Tatis can't bunt, then use Castillo as a PH.

I just don't see it, though.

Swan Swan H
Apr 19 2009 02:09 PM

I agree. He's in the lineup to hit, so let him hit. Although, at this rate, he'll be playing everyday for Your Buffalo Bisons before long.

Meanwhile, Weeks finds the hole that Santos did not. Brewers by 2. Pitcher's hole then the top due for the Good Guys.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 02:13 PM

Castillo out, but then Jose gets on on an infield single.

Murphy the tying run at the plate.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 02:13 PM

And he pops to short. It's all up to Mr. Wright.

Swan Swan H
Apr 19 2009 02:15 PM

Blecchh. Coffey did a nice job here, but they Mets had their chances.

Benjamin Grimm
Apr 19 2009 02:15 PM

And Wright ends it with a soft liner to second.

"The biggest win of the year for the Brewers" according to their announcers.

Three runs in two days is not gonna get it done. Feel bad for Nelson, who did what he was supposed to do.

Twelve hits
three doubles
two triples
two runs

Was I all over that Omir Santos call or what?

Bad luck, and a few bad turns at bat is all it takes.

I agree (with you, not the Brewer's Crew).

And, as usual, these pro-bunters rarely mention that sac bunts aren't always successful - particularly by those who rarely bunt.

Tatis also got dicked by two of those strikes. Neither strike one (the half-swing) nor strike two (called on the inside corner) looked like strikes to me and that put him in the 0-2 hole.

Apr 19 2009 03:13 PM

Reyes & Murphy on base 3 times each - yet only once in the same inning
Between that and all the DPs it was that kind of day.

Casey Fossum. Welcome.
Nelson Figueroa. DFA'd.

Of course, they could have just started Stokes today instead of Figueroa (and Pelfrey) allowing them to keep O'Day. Or they could have DL'd Pelfrey. Instead, they've potentially lost two decent pitchers.

My first game attended today. I was in SoCal last week with the fam, doing the visting grampa and Disneyland thing. Luckily, the Mets were playing a SoCal team so whilst away I was able to catch a couple innings here and there.

Saw Wright's 3-run jack in the opener in a bar in the Anza-Borrego desert. Saw Castro's in the Finale at ESPN Zone at Disney.

Was very much looking forward to actually watching a complete game (which I was able to yesterday - and thank YOU Mr. Santana) and sitting in the new place.

I read this thread and am glad to see that peeps are more positive than not. I too, thought that Figgy did a bang-up job, that Santos deserves a longer look and that it was mostly bad luck that prevented the sweep today. The crowd around me (Met fans actually cuz I was in the Promenade today) were not happy with the effort and needless to say the callers to WFAN on the ride home were incensed.

I didn't see it. 2 of 3 to the Brewers. Both gritty, grind it out wins with excellent performances. Two unusual DPs today. Whatchagonnado?

What's the dilly on Big Pelf? Just this start or do they know yet?
