Your 2009 Bisons!!

I'd trot that lineup out against the Pirates right now and win a series.

Weird seeing Gee on the Bisons after only 4 starts at AA last year.

Only two or three non-pitchers even figure to have a sniff at seeing Flushing .... Buffalo would be lucky to win a series from Binghamton.

"The Mets have released former Pirate Rob Mackowiak from Triple-A Buffalo in order to clear roster room for Brandon Knight, who is being activated for his first 2009 start on Monday. Mackowiak was 0-for-6 in two games with the Bisons."

Fernando Martinez is off to a good start at AAA (8 of his 10 hits have gone for extra-bases), enough so to make BA's 'Hot List' - their weekly roundup of the who's hot and who's not of minor league ball.

The big league club isnt the only one off to a troubling start...

Evans' K-rate is abnormally high (17 in 49 AB's), but he's hitting the ball hard when he does make contact so that .102 average will certainly go up. I also like the 9 walks. Assuming the K/AB levels off at a more reasonable number, there's no reason for concern.

The 2-12 Herd are hitting under .200 and Ken Oberkfell says that he is disgusted. They've reportedly added veteran infielder Mike Lamb, who I've always liked. He's a good replacement for Jose Valentin, I think.

"The Daily News has learned that pitcher Nelson Figueroa has re-signed with the Mets and will report back to Triple-A Buffalo."

What a fucking emotional roller coaster in the Figueroa household.

Fernando Martinezmanages to have a 1-for-18 week (.056/.150/.056 with two walks and five whiffs) which brings his overall season numbers to .233/.288/.411 and lands him on BA's 'NOT-so-Hot List' for the week.
|
Frayed Knot May 08 2009 02:09 PM |
Fernando-mania indeed as the Buffalo OFer makes BA's 'Hot List' one week, their 'Not Hot List' the next week, and is back on the good side of the ledger this week:

If you want to follow them, I heard them on my car radio on 1520AM the other night. I had been checking the frequency since the AAA season started, but this was the first game I heard. They may have been waiting for the hockey season to end.

Got into my car aound ten tonight. Turned on the Mets game, and they had just won. They were cutting to their typical zillion commercials and then were going to interview Manuel before the highlights. So I turned the station to see if I could pick up the Buffalo game. They were down 3-1 in the bottom of the eleventh.

New Herdsman comes on board. Welcome fringey dude Adam Pettyjohn. Adam is a serious AAA vet (been there since 2000) who has logged only 19 games in the bigs, 16 of those with 96-game-loser Detroit in 2001 and three more with Cincinnati last year. It's funny, he initially shot through the minors in two years, but then apparently he had colon surgery in 2002 and never was considered a prospect again. Last year, he led the International League in wins, but only got those three appearances as a reward.

Neither do I. I see no harm in making a minor transaction to help your Triple A team.

Hey, if I were a AAA team, I'd want at least one decent AAA-quality player that my fanbase could rally around for years to come. I wouldn't want to be a revolving door only.

exactly, and I feel that jumping guys from AA straight to the majors is an example of that. I think there are some players at AA like Davis, Holt, Thole and Tejada who would benefit from some AAA seasoning.
|
Edgy DC Aug 11 2009 12:51 PM |
I don't think there's any reason to think Davis, Holt, Thole and Tejada will all skip AAA, and if they do, you can bet that at least two of them will end up back there quickly enough.

Part of the reason Omar was up there was to woo the Buffalo fans. The team isn't drawing, and there's some sentiment to drop the Mets in favor of a different Major League team when the current contract expires after the 2010 season.

I'm watching the Bisons playing the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs tonight on the Lehigh Valley channel. 4-3 Herd in the 7th.
