patti corrected 4 x 5 = 20 papers before sandy joined her, so they had 143 papers to do together. together, they correct 11 papers per minute, so they then take 143 / 11 = 13 minutes to finish the stack. so sandy corrected 13 minutes x 7 papers/minute = 91 papers and patti did the other 163 - 91 = 72 papers. also, 4 x 5 = 20; plus 4 x 13 = 52; altogether patti did 20 before sandy started to help, and 52 afterwards, for a total of 72 papers.
