Gay dame IGT 4/23 Mets @ St Louis
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 07:45 AM |
1:40 start.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 07:57 AM |
I think Beltran may be lost batting fifth, and may need a bigger challenge to get him out of his head.
HahnSolo Apr 23 2009 08:01 AM |
I don't mind the switch up with Beltran and Wright. I've thought that both of them were more suited to the 3-spot than the 5. But I really don't have too strong of a feeling who should be hitting where.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 08:19 AM |
Beltran has been smoking the ball these last 2 games but is coming off a bad series vs. the Brewers.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 08:26 AM |
No doubt, but I sometimes get the impression that there's a little A-Rod in him. He can be on top of the nuances of his game --- his swing, his position --- but be so tuned into that he's aloof from the nuances of the game he's playing, and a simple situtational execution like sliding, can elude him. That's purely speculation, but if moving him back to third has a chance of electrifying him by getting him back in the middle of things, it's worth a shot.
Fman99 Apr 23 2009 08:30 AM |
Wright only has 5 RBIs so far, and 3 of them came on one swing in the home opener. Ain't gonna be no playoff team without him warming up.
metirish Apr 23 2009 08:32 AM |
I'd like to see Beltran hit 2nd for a week followed by Wright and Delgado with Sheffield getting the week in the outfield to see if he gets on a hot streak.
batmagadanleadoff Apr 23 2009 08:34 AM |
If a player's game can be electrified simply by moving him into the three hole, then wouldn't the player taken out of the three lose a jolt of whatever the three hole supposedly provides?
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 08:43 AM |
Perhaps, clearly this is all speculative. Or perhaps, he'll stay there, or in the two hole, or the four hole. I'm just interested for now to see how he responds for one day.
Farmer Ted Apr 23 2009 09:17 AM |
Wright peaked in the WBC. I blame Selig.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 09:31 AM |
It's just a thought, but the world looks different hitting in front of Delgado than hitting behind Delgado, being in the part of the lineup that tends to slope up in power, rather than sloping down. Different engaging things you can do more often --- exploit the hole that opens up with guys held close in front of you, bunt for hits, hit with the runner in motion, steal more. The dude's got only four runs --- he's apparently forgotten how to score one --- and maybe a change of perspective from where he is often the last best hope at a run-scoring inning can help get the rocks off.
Hawkeye57 Apr 23 2009 09:38 AM |
With the hits Beltran has been getting and the way that Wright has been playing, I would also agree on a swap between the two players.
batmagadanleadoff Apr 23 2009 09:45 AM |
You can make a reasonable argument to order Beltran, Delgado and Wright in any of the six possible permutations, especially considering the way Delgado's been hitting since June of last season. (I'm assuming that they'll bat 3-4-5, however they're ordered). Everyone has noticed how difficult it has been for the Mets to come up with runs this season even though practically the whole lineup is producing. I thing that this is no more than a short term statistical oddity and that the offense will generate above average run totals soon enough. Offense is not the team's weakness: it's of the Majors' best.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 23 2009 09:51 AM |
No, it's not. The biggest worry, I think, are the four guys who follow Santana in the rotation.
Fman99 Apr 23 2009 09:55 AM |
Today's lineup...
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 09:58 AM |
They're 13th out of 16 in starter ERA. For now, I'm certain they're young enough and talented enough that that will improve. Whether they're healthy enough is more my concern. Maine seems to be finding his arm again, and forearm tendinitis for Pelfrey, after a big uptick in innings last season, may foreshadow elbow issues.

S L S L R R L R Pitcher (w/Murphy, Castillo, and Tatis available) Against a micro-Manager like LaRussa, I like the lefty-rightyness.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 11:25 AM |
I like all that power out there for a day game.
Fman99 Apr 23 2009 11:30 AM |
All of my optimism has returned. I think we whoop them and get the salvage game here.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 11:34 AM |
Yes, I fully expect to destroy them this afternoon. My prediction is pain.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 11:49 AM |
Hey we're winning already.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 11:53 AM |
With a name like Skip Schumaker, he's almost guaranteed a 35-year broadcasting career when he hangs up his cleats, isn't he?
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 11:57 AM |
Poo Holes ties it with a solo album.
apmorris Apr 23 2009 12:01 PM |
we could be in trouble, they have outfielders
metirish Apr 23 2009 12:02 PM |
What a running catch by Edmunds
Nymr83 Apr 23 2009 12:08 PM |
four good ones actually, too bad for them theres no DH.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 23 2009 12:10 PM |
You had me confused there.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 12:13 PM |
Edmonds is the centerfielder, Edmunds is the guitar player.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 12:16 PM |
Beltran smashes a 2-out double off the fence. He's really stinging it right now.
metsguyinmichigan Apr 23 2009 12:18 PM |
Bernie Williams was a centerfielder who played guitar. And his abilities in both were overrated.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 12:18 PM |
They (un)intentionally walk Delgado and dis Wright. Use it!
apmorris Apr 23 2009 12:21 PM |
Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 12:22 PM |
And he doesn't. Well, sounded like he hit it hard but looks like another out in the boxscore and another couple runners left on.
apmorris Apr 23 2009 12:31 PM |
We could be in trouble, they can catch.
metirish Apr 23 2009 12:34 PM |
This isn't a Spring Training game , Sheffield needs to make that first base bag his ad not hold up because he might hurt Pujols.
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 12:47 PM |
Paging Mets offense...Mets offense to the field.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 12:48 PM |
Livan has to stop these guys scoring first. A fucking RBI single for Kyle Douche.
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 12:52 PM |
The bleeding stops at 4-1.
metsguyinmichigan Apr 23 2009 12:54 PM |
These guys are killing me. We have a new kick-ass bullpen without anything for them to save.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 12:55 PM |
Reyes reaches on an infield single (or an error) to srtart the 5th.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 12:57 PM |
Cora has a hit. 1st & 2nd, 0 out for Beltran-Delgado-Wright.
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 12:58 PM |
Rally, rally! Middle of the order with 2 on and no outs.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 12:59 PM |
Beltran pops out.
apmorris Apr 23 2009 01:00 PM |
Uh oh
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 01:00 PM |
Wright singles!
GYC Apr 23 2009 01:01 PM |
I really hate the fact that I can't watch this right now.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 01:02 PM |
Sheff fucks us, 6-4-3 style.
GYC Apr 23 2009 01:03 PM |
Just intensifies my hatred of Sheffield and the fact that he is on the Mets.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2009 01:03 PM |
DAMN YOU SHEFFIELD, ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS FLYOUT FOR ONE RUN
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 01:03 PM |
3 hits and an error only net one run.
metsguyinmichigan Apr 23 2009 01:05 PM |
Freaking Sheffield. Has he done anything besides his homer?
holychicken Apr 23 2009 01:05 PM |
WTF? Is this team ever going to take advantage of anything?
GYC Apr 23 2009 01:07 PM |
There goes the game. Now I can just focus on taking notes in class.
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 01:07 PM |
He had a double on Sunday...but other than that and a walk or two, no.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 01:08 PM |
I don't hate Sheffield, I think he's good for the team, I just don't like that he DPed.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 01:08 PM |
Oh, and Poo Hole just jacked a 2-run homer.
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 01:10 PM |
Oh, Livan.
metirish Apr 23 2009 01:11 PM |
This season isn't even shaping up to be interesting , not at this rate anyway.
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 01:11 PM |
Gah...I'm this close to clawing my eyes out.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 23 2009 01:13 PM |
I think that's going to be the theme of this season.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 01:16 PM |
It should be the marketing slogan.
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 01:22 PM |
Another 2 out RISP RBI.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 01:24 PM |
This is not a pen St. Louis is proud of.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 01:25 PM |
Beltran. It's your team. It's your time.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 01:27 PM |
And... it's your soft groundout to the pitcher.
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 01:27 PM |
He grounded out to the bullpen.
themetfairy Apr 23 2009 01:34 PM |
I'm tired of this suckitude.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 01:35 PM |
Jason LaRue looks like a guy named Jason LaRue.
G-Fafif Apr 23 2009 01:35 PM |
No more amenities for the players. Take a bus back to New York, boys.
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 01:36 PM |
Yeah...none of the facets of our game look very good today.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2009 01:37 PM |
how many runs do they have to score for a train ticket?
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 01:39 PM |
I hat baseball.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 01:39 PM |
Sean Green joins the seven ERA club.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 01:40 PM |
This reminds me of a series in Milwaukee in 2001. IIRC, it was also early in the year, we also got swept, it also completed on a blowout gay dame.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Apr 23 2009 01:41 PM |
I hate having to look to Philadelphia for my only baseball consolation today.

The Brett Hinchliffe Game.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2009 01:44 PM |
only 6.48! not that a reliever's ERA at this time of year is all that indicative of anything.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 01:44 PM |
Buck up: The 2001 Mets rebounded all the way to an 82-80 season.
Frayed Knot Apr 23 2009 01:45 PM |
He also hit in some bad luck today. Got robbed once by Ankiel in CF. Then again on a smash to 3B. And, yeah, the GiDP was bad but he also got dicked on a call and had to protect 0-2 instead of (where it should have been) at 1-1
metirish Apr 23 2009 01:50 PM |
Thankfully we have Citi Field to take our minds of the team.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 01:51 PM |
Ryan Church hasn't given up on that elusive PotG trophy.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 01:52 PM |
If only he could ever hit one with 7 guys on.
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 02:04 PM |
I thought Green was supposed to be good. Did someone piss in his Cheerios this morning?
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 02:10 PM |
(Pollyanna)This game may be what the offense needs. They've scored three straight innings.(/Pollyanna)

TransMonk Apr 23 2009 02:13 PM |
Carlos digs into the lead with a 3 run jack.
GYC Apr 23 2009 02:16 PM |
Well, we're still in it.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 02:18 PM |
The final fo the Brett Hinchliffe game was 12-8. Any improvement on that is welcome.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 02:19 PM |
Why do people first-pitch swing when they're down by many runs in late innings? Got to take a strike.
sharpie Apr 23 2009 02:27 PM |
That's eight consecutive half-innings where a run has scored.
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 02:29 PM |
A 4 or 5 run rally would be nice here.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 02:29 PM |
And a Parnell induced DP keeps that number from reaching nine.
metsguyinmichigan Apr 23 2009 02:32 PM |
Bleeping Ankiel is just killing us today.
Centerfield Apr 23 2009 02:34 PM |

Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 02:34 PM |
Tying run on double deck. LtsgMts!
metirish Apr 23 2009 02:36 PM |
LaRussa never quits....
metirish Apr 23 2009 02:37 PM |
WTF was Church doing there...lucky with the balk
Frayed Knot Apr 23 2009 02:38 PM |
Only LaRussa could turn this game into a 6-pitcher outing.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 02:41 PM |
Hey, LaRussa, using three guys in the ninth to protect a four-run lead? Have mercy.
Edgy DC Apr 23 2009 02:42 PM |
Well, that was fun. What else is on?
metsguyinmichigan Apr 23 2009 02:43 PM |
Can we please play a bad team soon? Are the Nationals busy?
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 23 2009 02:44 PM |
Add St. Louis to the list of teams I wouldn't dream of trading our guys for straight-up but who nevertheless made us look like shit.
metirish Apr 23 2009 02:46 PM |
We've not won since Santana last pitched.
metsguyinmichigan Apr 23 2009 02:46 PM |
Looking for the bright side...
HahnSolo Apr 23 2009 02:49 PM |
Bright side...?
TransMonk Apr 23 2009 02:49 PM |
That was the most runs we've scored in a loss, so this one is clearly on the pitching. To be fair, I'm not ready to start panicing and asking the Pedro/Garcia/Redding questions yet. This was our 5th starter going up against one of the (if not THE) most potent offenses in the NL.
metirish Apr 23 2009 02:50 PM |
Yeah they score a lot of runs , after they were down a lot of runs though I guess it's still a positive.
metirish Apr 23 2009 02:57 PM |
Bob Ojeda is going on about how the Mets need to get back to what he saw in Spring Training , namely stealing bases....
Benjamin Grimm Apr 23 2009 03:00 PM |
Stealing bases???
metirish Apr 23 2009 03:01 PM |
To be fair to Bob he has now just talked about the crap starting pitching...and he's seeing cracks in the pen.
metirish Apr 23 2009 03:03 PM |
Jerry talking about maybe needing to carry an extra pitcher , due to the poor starting pitching.
metirish Apr 23 2009 03:05 PM |
Jerry is pissed , one more turn through the rotation but beyond that.....
apmorris Apr 23 2009 05:07 PM |
