MUST WIN GAME IN APRIL!!
Benjamin Grimm Apr 24 2009 06:24 AM |
Ideally, it will rain four out of every five days for the next few months.
Fman99 Apr 24 2009 06:38 AM |
Not a moment too soon.
metirish Apr 24 2009 07:17 AM |
Not to be greedy but I need JCL to be posting a picture of an old guy with a broom come Sunday afternoon.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 24 2009 07:18 AM |
Sheff and Tatis to be starting in the corners tonight, according to the Snooze.

Not to rain on your parade irish, but even if our boys win the first two they are scheduled to face the Nats hotshot rookie pitcher - Jordan Zimmerman on Sunday. We all know how the Mets usually seem to fare against rookie pitchers that they've never seen.

Blasphemy: a dangerous way to open a game.

God called. Said he's flattered by the comparison, but he's no Johan.

There is a bright spot to the horrible start. If they keep playing like this there will be no last day of the season heartbreak.

My heart breaks a little at the end of every season.

Mets are in trouble -- two men in scoring position.
bmfc1 Apr 24 2009 05:45 PM |
Nats color guy, moron Rob Dibble, after Tatis' double on an 0-2 count: "he's not that good."
Fman99 Apr 24 2009 05:51 PM |
Two innings, 0-5, 0 RBIs with RISP.

Not quite yet apparently
metsguyinmichigan Apr 24 2009 05:53 PM |
Needed to score there, obviously, but at least they're hitting.
TheOldMole Apr 24 2009 05:56 PM |
but that's the story all season -- get men on base, don't drive em in.
Ashie62 Apr 24 2009 06:02 PM |
YES!! Looked like Castillo was going to keel over doing his best in case Beltran was going for four..
Swan Swan H Apr 24 2009 06:09 PM |
There's your run, Johan. Don't spend it all in one place.
metirish Apr 24 2009 06:13 PM |
Wright booed with vigor after striking out for the 19th time.
metsguyinmichigan Apr 24 2009 06:15 PM |
That's all Johan needs -- though it would be nice tack on one or two or a dozen more runs.
batmagadanleadoff Apr 24 2009 06:22 PM |
That was an old SI cover.
batmagadanleadoff Apr 24 2009 06:23 PM |
There's your new leadoff hitter, Jerry. (as Luis drives in the Mets second run). A feast for Johan.
TheOldMole Apr 24 2009 06:24 PM |
I think we can forgive Santana a baserfunning error.
Swan Swan H Apr 24 2009 06:25 PM |
Castillo with the big two-out hit scores Freddy Teats. Santana gets caught between second and third, has to dive back into second base headfirst, and paramedics have to restart Manuel's heart.
metsguyinmichigan Apr 24 2009 06:25 PM |
When the other team makes errors like that, you have to make them pay. Reyes can't go popping to second in that situation.
Swan Swan H Apr 24 2009 06:27 PM |
A two run lead. Santana must feel like Ralphie Parker on Christmas morning.
Swan Swan H Apr 24 2009 06:33 PM |
Jesus Flores and Alberto Gonzalez hit a couple of cheez puffs, and Olson bunts them over. Andy Handy is not man enough against Johan, and dribbles weakly in the direction of the mound.
gerrard00 Apr 24 2009 06:51 PM |
Really Castro? Really? Of course, the boo loving fans have nothing to say when someone actually makes a lazy play. Two hands!
Mendoza Line Apr 24 2009 06:51 PM |
Elijah Dukes offers the Mets an out. Castro declines.
PiggiesTomatoes Apr 24 2009 06:51 PM |
I think Castro was intending to pop the ball up with his glove and catch it behind his back. Even odds that comes back to bite.
Ashie62 Apr 24 2009 06:51 PM |
Is this team on DOPE!
Ashie62 Apr 24 2009 06:52 PM |
I've got my first Citifield World Class experience 5/30. I hope this bunch is still in contention.
Ashie62 Apr 24 2009 06:54 PM |
Castro looked like he was trying to field a Dickshot
bmfc1 Apr 24 2009 07:02 PM |
Suck on that, Rob Dibble. During the entire AB, Dibble continued to insult Tatis, including saying that he swung like he had a donut on the bat.
metsguyinmichigan Apr 24 2009 07:06 PM |
Looks like I'm going to be able to get there during the first week in August! Very excited!
bmfc1 Apr 24 2009 07:07 PM |
Bob Carpenter accused the Mets of "gamesmanship" and said it was "unprofessional" to force the visiting team's bullpen to watch the game via a TV. First of all, the Mets aren't clever enough for gamesmanship and second, the TV is an upgrade from last week.
metsguyinmichigan Apr 24 2009 07:08 PM |
Tatis says "Take this with your doughnut, Rob Dibble!"
metsguyinmichigan Apr 24 2009 07:10 PM |
:) He should have seen the bullpens in Tiger Stadium. The were like cages half-buried in the ground.
metsguyinmichigan Apr 24 2009 07:13 PM |
Murph says "Put me in" and delivers!
bmfc1 Apr 24 2009 07:13 PM |
They bitched about the bullpen for the entire half-inning. Carpenter wondered how the league could allow it and Dibble wondered if there was a brawl, if the bullpen pitchers would fight from across the adjacent bullpens.
Fman99 Apr 24 2009 07:19 PM |
Parnell throws some smoke. SNY clocking him at 97 MPH on that last K.
Fman99 Apr 24 2009 07:25 PM |
Feliciano looks more like 2007 than 2008. He's also getting less exposure against RH hitters. He is, so far, filling capably the LOOGY role.
Edgy DC Apr 24 2009 07:34 PM |
Just getting home here. Not in favor of hooking Santana.

Fman99 Apr 24 2009 07:34 PM |

Bergmann...another reliever with what looks like some sort of landing patch for facial hair.
metirish Apr 24 2009 07:37 PM |
Of course I would have liked to Wright's poke to RF go out but it is OK with me that a hard shot like stays in the park too.

"The wave" is stupid.
metirish Apr 24 2009 07:50 PM |
It was him then....the TIVO people need to get a picture of that...not sure but i thought I saw him whip out his cell phone like a proper dick :)

I'm fine with it (at a soccer game).
Fman99 Apr 24 2009 07:54 PM |
Oooo a rally. Singles by Castro and Church.
Swan Swan H Apr 24 2009 07:57 PM |
Bunting here is preposterous. Castro could be thrown out from anywhere, and all you do is give them an out. Swing batta batta batta...
Swan Swan H Apr 24 2009 07:58 PM |
And the net effect is the same as a bunt.
PiggiesTomatoes Apr 24 2009 07:58 PM |
The Nats catcher has taken more balls in the chest tonight than (insert punchline here).
Fman99 Apr 24 2009 08:02 PM |
Hambone in the throat. Reyes and Castillo ground out. Beltran getting the free pass and they'll pitch to Delgado. I smell a LOOGY.
PiggiesTomatoes Apr 24 2009 08:02 PM |
2-17.

Kippy-ki-a MF'er. Thanks Mr. Wells.
Fman99 Apr 24 2009 08:07 PM |
Well we'll have to take the one run and be happy with it.
Swan Swan H Apr 24 2009 08:12 PM |
Did you think it would be easy? Jesus H. Flores.
Fman99 Apr 24 2009 08:12 PM |
Hoo boy. I am happy with that run.
Swan Swan H Apr 24 2009 08:15 PM |
That run should be about five more, and Casey Flippin' Fossum should have been brought in to protect an eight run lead. Didn't we see this about 75 times last year?
Edgy DC Apr 24 2009 08:16 PM |
Gad to have three centerfielders out there this inning. We need them the way the the balls are hitting bats.
Swan Swan H Apr 24 2009 08:17 PM |
Had 'em all the way. I'm going out for ice cream.
Fman99 Apr 24 2009 08:18 PM |
Put it in the books! The good guys win (finally).

Frayed Knot Apr 24 2009 08:24 PM |
Was glad to see Frankie put an end to that one before Nick Johnson came up.
Edgy DC Apr 24 2009 08:34 PM |
Yeah, Hernandez was wonderful to see at the end, wasn't he?
Edgy DC Apr 24 2009 08:35 PM |
The three options availabel on Acta's bench were a combined two for 19 this season.
MFS62 Apr 24 2009 08:38 PM |
The gap between Santana and the rest of the starters is greater than the gap between Xena and Gabrielle on the hottie scale.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 24 2009 09:09 PM |
Yeah that was him. Looked like he just walked out of the bathroom leaving a stinky one behind.
Gwreck Apr 24 2009 09:31 PM |
Bottom 7, 2 men on with 2 outs and right hander Jason Bergmann pitching. Sheffield bats instead of Church. Sheffield gets pulled at the end of inning and the defensive replacement is...Church.

I think Jerry is going to frustrate us some nights, but his approach seems to be to use certain opportunities at the top of the season to give these guys a chance to get goin'. Some Willie there, maybe.
He didn't have a lefty available, so I guess the plan was, when chosisng between two lefthanded batters, was to set up the double play.
Gwreck Apr 24 2009 09:46 PM |
Yabbut -- there were already 2 outs.
Edgy DC Apr 24 2009 09:50 PM |
Well, then, I don't know. Me wife was talking at the time.

Just finished watching on the tivo. I was on the phone w/ my bro in NM, and was like, "I think I know that dude!" Missed the TMF fam. I'm a douche and deleted the game, so I hope someone else can get a screen grab. Great game, Mets. Needed that win!

I expected that exact move all along: replacing both Sheff & Tatis w/Church & Reed after the former two got their last ABs. The idea at this point is to get everyone their ABs and Sheff has been having good ones lately.
I hate that move (unless there's a big batter advantage) for the exact reason it came back to bite the Nats: No room for error.
It was against Johnson right? -- I'm OK with looking for every advantage vs him plus Dunn a batter later if things continue.
themetfairy Apr 25 2009 06:15 AM |
Yes - D-Dad and I were indeed at the GKR event with Kase and KB. Had a great time, hung out with great peeps, and finally saw the Mets win in Citi Field.

Hey, those guys might have had fun at the game! They might even have blocked some advertising. Sometimes I really think the Wilpons are trying to convince people to give up metfandom.
