Sheff and Tatis to be starting in the corners tonight, according to the Snooze.

It'll be the first time the Mets have faced a LH starter all year.

Not to rain on your parade irish, but even if our boys win the first two they are scheduled to face the Nats hotshot rookie pitcher - Jordan Zimmerman on Sunday. We all know how the Mets usually seem to fare against rookie pitchers that they've never seen.

TheOldMole

I think we can forgive Santana a baserfunning error.

Swan Swan H
Apr 24 2009 06:25 PM

Castillo with the big two-out hit scores Freddy Teats. Santana gets caught between second and third, has to dive back into second base headfirst, and paramedics have to restart Manuel's heart.

Santana, at the last second, did a little twist move to dive in right-arm first. Very quick thinking.

metsguyinmichigan
Apr 24 2009 06:25 PM

When the other team makes errors like that, you have to make them pay. Reyes can't go popping to second in that situation.

Take the run, though.

Swan Swan H
Apr 24 2009 06:27 PM

A two run lead. Santana must feel like Ralphie Parker on Christmas morning.

Meanwhile, Wright's whiffery doesn't affect his glove. A really nice play going to his right saves a double.

Swan Swan H
Apr 24 2009 06:33 PM

Jesus Flores and Alberto Gonzalez hit a couple of cheez puffs, and Olson bunts them over. Andy Handy is not man enough against Johan, and dribbles weakly in the direction of the mound.

Today's fun fact - there have been 14 Major League ballplayers with the first name Jesus. None had the middle initial H.

gerrard00

Really Castro? Really? Of course, the boo loving fans have nothing to say when someone actually makes a lazy play. Two hands!

Elijah Dukes offers the Mets an out. Castro declines.

PiggiesTomatoes

Bob Carpenter accused the Mets of "gamesmanship" and said it was "unprofessional" to force the visiting team's bullpen to watch the game via a TV. First of all, the Mets aren't clever enough for gamesmanship and second, the TV is an upgrade from last week.

They bitched about the bullpen for the entire half-inning. Carpenter wondered how the league could allow it and Dibble wondered if there was a brawl, if the bullpen pitchers would fight from across the adjacent bullpens.

Apr 24 2009 08:34 PM

Goofy post-game questions: "Jerry, you talk about competitiveness. What would it like to have five Johans out there? Or 25?"

The three options availabel on Acta's bench were a combined two for 19 this season.

The gap between Santana and the rest of the starters is greater than the gap between Xena and Gabrielle on the hottie scale.

Bottom 7, 2 men on with 2 outs and right hander Jason Bergmann pitching. Sheffield bats instead of Church. Sheffield gets pulled at the end of inning and the defensive replacement is...Church.

Maybe Jerry doesn't realize that Church is hitting two hundred points better than Sheffield. That's gotta be the reason, right?

Also thought it was strange that Acta walked Beltran intentionally in the 8th with 2 outs and a righty up to get to Delgado. Maybe the matchup numbers were favoring the pitcher.

Parnell's fastest pitch was 98 on the stadium gun. Was not in favor of lifting him for Feliciano.

Seemed like a low fan IQ night, what with booing of the wrong things (as pointed out here with Castro's error) and the wave during Putz' big 8th inning.

I think Jerry is going to frustrate us some nights, but his approach seems to be to use certain opportunities at the top of the season to give these guys a chance to get goin'. Some Willie there, maybe.

He didn't have a lefty available, so I guess the plan was, when chosisng between two lefthanded batters, was to set up the double play.

I expected that exact move all along: replacing both Sheff & Tatis w/Church & Reed after the former two got their last ABs. The idea at this point is to get everyone their ABs and Sheff has been having good ones lately.

]Also thought it was strange that Acta walked Beltran intentionally in the 8th with 2 outs and a righty up to get to Delgado. Maybe the matchup numbers were favoring the pitcher.

I hate that move (unless there's a big batter advantage) for the exact reason it came back to bite the Nats: No room for error.

It was against Johnson right? -- I'm OK with looking for every advantage vs him plus Dunn a batter later if things continue.
