IGT, May 1: Mets @ Phils
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 01:58 PM |
Just as I suspected, Delgado is not in the starting lineup. Neither is Castillo or Castro.
Edgy DC May 01 2009 02:00 PM |
I'm going to come out and advocate for some retroactive DL placements. Short benches suck.
Benjamin Grimm May 01 2009 02:02 PM |
I'll renew my call for the 27-man roster.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 02:18 PM |
Chan Ho Park pitching for the bad guys.

Cora shouldnt be batting 2nd, drop him down between tatis and santos and move everyone else up a spot.
metirish May 01 2009 02:33 PM |
Is Delgado on the DL or " day to day" and in a weeks time when he is still not right he then will go on the DL.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 02:38 PM |
I don't disagree strongly, but you said the same thing the other day yet Cora went out and had a very good day at the plate.

This Cora-batting-second business absolutely REEKS of Willie-move.

... which makes it likelier than usual that Cora will suck today. Not a good thing because Cora usually sucks, anyway.
bmfc1 May 01 2009 04:17 PM |
The writers are tweeting that Delgado might go on the DL. I looked at the Buffalo roster to see who might get called up. Yeesh--no wonder they are 2-16. Nick Evans is hitting .102 (3 HR out of his 6 hits).
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 05:10 PM |
Cora, sucking as assured, draws a walk and scores on a HR from Muffy. 2-0!

batmagadanleadoff May 01 2009 05:12 PM |
So what are the odds Cora gets on base in his next at-bat, being that he walked his first time up? He's due for some out-making.
Zvon May 01 2009 05:21 PM |
We should have scored more here in the 1st.
Elster88 May 01 2009 05:41 PM |

That's not how probability works.

Mets plate two on sac flys, including one that showed Pelf Power©

Lets build that picket fence.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 06:00 PM |
Beltran to me looks impossibly slow, Jeez.
Zvon May 01 2009 06:00 PM |
See Beltran?...sliding isn't THAT dangerous.
Zvon May 01 2009 06:02 PM |
Thats cuz he's so fast. Its just he looks slow to the human eye.
Gwreck May 01 2009 06:04 PM |
I thought Beltran looked slow there too. But I was glad to see him using proper sliding form.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 06:05 PM |
I know he's one of those guys who doesn;t appear like he's moving hard when he's moving a lot, but watch that replay and see how long it takes him to really accelerate. His 0-to-60 looked sluggish, let;s put it that way.
metsguyinmichigan May 01 2009 06:08 PM |
Nice to see Chan Ho hasn't changed much.
Zvon May 01 2009 06:13 PM |
Gotta get out of this Pelf.
Gwreck May 01 2009 06:14 PM |
Tough spot with Ibanez up and bases loaded. If Pelfrey wants to put some guys on, ok, but man up and get the out here, thanks.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 06:17 PM |
If it was Burrell he'd have hit it over the fence.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 06:19 PM |
Top of the order coming up. Gotta keep scoring.
Zvon May 01 2009 06:19 PM |
A frakin broken bat single plates 2.

John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 06:36 PM |
HUGE pickoff there.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 06:37 PM |
Plef helping himself with the bat and the pickoff. That really wrecked what I was sure was about to be the game-tying rally we all know is coming.
Zvon May 01 2009 06:39 PM |

If you couple the ginger running to the lack of sliding you might think he's more concerned with not getting hurt than he is with playing the game, and that's a bad place for a player with his tools to be. Its like with Perez, in a way. I think some players consider some games more important than others, and I don't agree with that. I think every game is important, whether it be april, sept, vs the Phils or the worst team in the league. Nice pick off as Pelf erases J-Roll. And Beltran doubles to open the Mets 5th

Zvon May 01 2009 06:41 PM |
ooooo, Wrights drivin in some runs tonight :)
Zvon May 01 2009 06:44 PM |
ooooo,nice catch by Ibanez.
Zvon May 01 2009 06:50 PM |
Chan Ho leaves the park.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 06:53 PM |
That's how you win! Beat up the starter then beat up the reliever.
Kong76 May 01 2009 06:53 PM |
Big Pelf with another RBI! Mmmm, Schaefer ....

Benjamin Grimm May 01 2009 06:59 PM |
I hope Pelfrey has an easy inning here. He's already thrown 81 pitches. I can imagine Jerry leaving a struggling Pelfrey in too long in order to get the five innings.
Zvon May 01 2009 07:01 PM |
Yea, he slid there. Nice to see him playing the game.
Kong76 May 01 2009 07:04 PM |
So he didn't slide another time and he's not interested?
Zvon May 01 2009 07:08 PM |
That's not for me to say. Ask him. I can only speculate, as I have. But if you play the game and the balls arriving at a base when you are, you slide. And he slid that time. Yay!
Benjamin Grimm May 01 2009 07:09 PM |
Through 5 innings, Pelfrey's thrown 95 pitches.
Kong76 May 01 2009 07:11 PM |
Beltran steals second.

Zvon May 01 2009 07:14 PM |

He had a great jump there too. Looked fast.

lol Pelf hits the shelf with one out, two on in the 6th.

John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 07:24 PM |
Holy shit!
Zvon May 01 2009 07:24 PM |
WOOT!
seawolf17 May 01 2009 07:25 PM |
Wow, that was ugly. I was sure the Phillies were somehow scoring two runs there, but instead they get nothing.
Kong76 May 01 2009 07:26 PM |
That was bizarre, could of been disaterous if that throw to second
Zvon May 01 2009 07:27 PM |
Phils talking heads say Reyes will get an error on that.
seawolf17 May 01 2009 07:27 PM |
Nice. A goose egg on the scoreboard for Pedro.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 07:27 PM |
Just what I thought -- that had little league 2-run triple written all over it.
Zvon May 01 2009 07:29 PM |
I do think you are correct sir.
seawolf17 May 01 2009 07:29 PM |
Absolutely. Lots of ways for the Mets to screw that up, but the Phillies just screwed it up worse. And yes, that's definitely an error on Reyes, because it allowed Coste to reach third.

Did you get a sinking feeling in your stomach that went away as soon as he gloved it? If you did, your a Met fan.

Zvon May 01 2009 07:36 PM |
Ha. They walk Feliciano.
Fman99 May 01 2009 07:36 PM |
Wow, Mets pitchers getting it done at the dish tonight.
Zvon May 01 2009 07:46 PM |
Utley homered?
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 07:46 PM |
Rough night for Reyes, he's still trying to find his game too I think.
Zvon May 01 2009 07:53 PM |
Putz for the 8th.
Fman99 May 01 2009 07:58 PM |
So far so good. Putz throwing strikes. Crappy Miguel Cairo at the dish to pinch hit.
Zvon May 01 2009 07:59 PM |
Thank you, Mr. Putz, for a scoreless 8th.

The Amstel commercial is the current winner of the "overplayed and super-irritating SNY advertisement."

Didn't it just recently come back after not been played for a while...maybe it's played during the season... thumbsahemina...

I wish they sold regular Amstel here.

bmfc1 May 01 2009 08:10 PM |

Fman99 May 01 2009 08:10 PM |
Can of corn. One down.
Fman99 May 01 2009 08:16 PM |
Beh. Two out walk to Utley.

Zvon May 01 2009 08:24 PM |
Took a lot of pitches for that 9th, but he got it done.
Kong76 May 01 2009 08:25 PM |
I only watched parts, did Cora suck?
Zvon May 01 2009 08:31 PM |

Cora only half sucked.

THOUGHTS ON THE GAME!!!!
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 08:37 PM |
I'll tellya what. He's not gonna make anyone forget Edgardo Alfonzo but I like him as a reserve so far. He's made plays in the field in these past few games that Damian Easley could only dream of making. And he's not much more than a singles hitter offensively but he appears to have an idea of what he's doing up there, unlike, say, David Newhan or something.
Frayed Knot May 01 2009 08:37 PM |
Bet the Angles want Frankie Rod back right about now.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 01 2009 08:38 PM |
That was Cora who made the leap. He was heads-up the whole play and did everything right.
Frayed Knot May 01 2009 08:42 PM |
That's right, it was Cora cuz Reyes was in the hole.

Keith calls Cora a " great professional" , which means what?
Edgy DC May 01 2009 10:16 PM |

That's what I was getting at earlier, but I supposedly wasn't getting a joke.

Edgy DC May 01 2009 10:27 PM |

Maybe Desi Relaford with better hands and less power? Maybe Bob Bailor but more acrobatic. Whatever, I like his game also.

MFS62 May 02 2009 06:22 AM |
From various player-written or ghosted books and interviews over the yeats, being called "professional" by another can mean any or all of:
