Why, they should be honored to deal with such issues so the Yankees can have their new Death Star.

Having been to both fields, they are much better off playing at St joseph by the sea in staten islansd than they would have been at that "field" (i use the term loosely) that used to be next to yankee stadium.

Hardly convenient for kids in the Bronx to trek over to Staten Island though. Juan Gonzalez in the Daily News reported this weeks ago and in general has been on the yankees and cities case over broken promises in regards to that area.

Isn't the field at YSII being saved as part of one of those parks which the community would have access to?

And if that's true, and by next year All Hallows new home field is the old Yankee Stadium field (just speculatin' here), then I bet that the school admins and players would say that a season or two of inconvenience its worth it. I'm sure it would be pretty cool as high school ballplayer from the Bronx to play your games on what is kinda-sorta the same field that Ruth & Gehrig played on.

P.S. Not that it matters but my dad and my uncle are All Hallows alum.

I'm not sure why they're not playing at YSII now.

The Yankees or the Gaels?

I believe they have begun the deconstruction of YSII.

If I were a Brit I would say bugger off....I might say feck off.

Anyway this is the third year of All Hollows being homeless as it were.

I don't understand this...there are other city parks in the Bronx where they can play. For a long time St. Raymonds' "home" was Bronx Park East.

I agree , I am five minutes from Pelham Park and there are fields there for all the school sports.

Meanwhile, a little league team shows some class, unlike the money greedy MFYs. Just tear down your old piece of shit, assholes. Anyway...

Washington Nationals outfielder Elijah Dukes was fined $500 and benched for being late to Saturday's home game against Florida.

But he won't pay the fine himself. The Great Falls Little League, where he was speaking prior to the game, says it will pay it for him after a fundraising effort, according to the Washington Post.

"The point is, this guy gave back to our community, and now he's in a hard spot. We need to help him," said Jim Mraz, the Great Falls LL president, according to the Post. "It's not a question of whether this guy can afford the 500 bucks. We're just trying to send a message to our kids: He was here for us. Now we've got to be there for him."

On Saturday, Nationals acting general manager Mike Rizzo and manager Manny Acta decided to fine and bench Dukes because Dukes was late and the appearance was not sponsored by the Nationals. They warned Dukes that if he was late again, he could be sent to the minor leagues.

"We are going to change the culture here, regardless of how well a guy is playing," Acta said, according to MLB.com. "It was a bizarre situation, because he was doing something that we encourage our players to do. He was out in the community doing something for some Little League program and he just showed up late for work.

"He was very remorseful about it. He felt bad, but we have to lay down the law. Regardless of who is out there, we are still losing ballgames. We have to change the culture somehow."

Dukes, who was paid $500 for his appearance, signed autographs, watched the parade of teams and spoke to the players for about a minute. He then sprinted to his car and headed to the ballpark, the Post reported.

The league was surprised by the fine and benching, and jumped into action with an e-mail campaign. Mraz will present $501 -- $1 for "administrative expenses," according to the Post -- to the Nationals.

Dukes had no comment.

Said Mraz: "You're a little stunned. Like, 'Whoa, wait a minute.' Here's the game of baseball -- it's got steroids hanging over it, all these issues. ... Needless to say the Nats kind of need help with what they're doing. I could see if he was out trying to do something small or private, but he just came into my community and gave us a shot in the arm."

I would think the MFYs might want access to a high school field so Chien-Ming Wang could get a start in.

Wow.
First of all, you run a little league and bring in Elijah Dukes to speak with kids?
Little kid: "What's the hardest hit you ever had, Mr. Dukes?"
Dukes: "Well, one time my girlfriend tried to take my french fries and..."

Second, if the team doesn't like your excuse Elijah, pay the fine. And you know what? make a comment to the reporter explaining what happened. Your image needs some enhancement, and this is the kind of event that might help.

Third, come on Nats management. Waive the fine. You can only make your organization look worse than it already does if a little league is writing out a check to you.

I'll support the Nats here. This is Great Falls. This wasn't a charitable visit to the DC version of the Coney Island Little League. Great Falls is more like Mamaroneck. And he was paid for his appearance. The fine is the amount of his appearance fee, so that seems appropriate.

The Nats have to do something to get going, and looking the other way at lateness won't help. I'm sure Dukes and the GFLL will be fine. The money will probably be donated to a Little League Chapter that needs it.

]And he was paid for his appearance

thats the key here to me. if you're late because you did something charitable thats alot different than being late because of a paid appearence.
