First six comments from the gallery on Wally's <a href="http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-spwally2812705216apr27,0,3680436.column" target="_blank">latest column</a>. How did <i>Newsday</i> clean house but spare this guy.

"Santos a great catch for Mets is also big hit". Are you guys farming out the headline writing to China or something?</td></tr><tr><td>Bob Westhampton Beach, NY

How did he save the Jets by catching a ceremonial first pitch from Sanchez? This is pretty lame writing.</td></tr><tr><td>TEM-rM Delray Beach, FL

Even when the Mets win this guy finds fault in that. NY newspapers has to be the only city that hires reporters that don't like the home teams. If you can't get positive reporters in the local friggin newspaper where are you supposed to find em?</td></tr><tr><td>average reader Plainview, NY

wallace matthews is a hack, hackity, hack hack </td></tr><tr><td>wally fan AOL

See, Wally, now doesn't it feel good to do some actual sportswriting?</td></tr><tr><td>Edgy DC Atlanta, GA

It's not catching on. Give it up. </td></tr></table>
I don't know why they think I'm in Atlanta. I've never even been there.

Most guys who try and stir up a populist duststorm can usually get some yahoos backing him. It's amazing the universal disdain the guy gets. (I'm pretty sure "wally fan" is Matthews himself.)

Even by his standards that is a bad column , cliché after cliché . I stopped reading after the first three paragraphs.

Speaking of which - that Sanchez pitch didn't exactly have a lot of zip on it, did it?

Just sayin'.

I can't remember who it was in the Daily news but he also said Santos saved Sanchez from an embarrassing moment , would people really care if it sailed over Santos?

That column was pretty tame I thought.

Everybody seems to care about everything these days. One proof of that would be the scrutiny given to the writings of fools like Wally Matthews.

Maybe Santos saved Sanchez from an embarrassing moment. (Maybe.) He certainly didn't save a franchise.

Won't read it.

To Wally I say, Boo.

Actually, for Wallace Matthews, this is one of his better columns.

Faint praise, I know, but if this was the worst he could do, it would be a vast improvement.

I think this is probably north of the median for him also, at least based on recent reads. I just enjoyed and found remarkable how many of the commenters seem to have already thrown in the towel on the guy.

I'd really like to kick this guy's ass.
