Yeah, secerecy is sort of part of the idea with a wiretap.

It's perfectly legal. You probably voted for it.

Rep. Jane Harman, California.

This story should bigger than --- well bigger than Scottish TV singers, I tell you that.

Member of Congress is recorded offering telling a suspected Israeli agent she would Pressure the Department of Justice to lighten up on two AIPAC officials accused of espionage, in exchange for their support in elevating her to the the chair of the House Intelligence Committee. Intelligence. She actually signed off by reminding the agent that the phone call "doesn't exist."

And she cries that she had no idea (duh!) that she was being wiretapped, and that it's an "abuse of power," as if she and her colleagues haven't given the executive branch carte blanche on warrantless wiretaps.

But you can't merely look at this as a corrupt Democrat story if you're a Republican or a Republican setup/smear story if you're a Democrat, because the reason this is coming out via a leak now is because Attorney General Alberto Gonzales apparently suppressed the investigation in exchange for her support for... further goverment wiretapping.

Front page story in the Times yesterday, but seems to have no legs this morning.

When I voted to approve wire-tapping I thought you were going to do it to other people!!

It's like the "I'm against pork" stands ... (as long as it's done in one of the other 434 districts)

oh yeah, her.
from what i read yesterday, she wants the transcripts of her wire-tapped calls made public as she claims they'll prove she did nothing wrong.

When all else fails, try chutzpah and obfuscation.

Charges against the lobbyists have been dropped, I'm not sure what that does for the chances of the transcripts of Harman being released.
