IGT--Mets @ Phillies, 05/03/09--RAINED OUT

Enjoy the day off, folks. How sweet it would have been to say that the Mets swept an abbreviated two game series against the Phillies instead of sitting on a loss for two days.

The teams have mutual off-days on Sept. 14 but I don't think that MLB will want to wait that long to make up the game in case there is rain during the next series in July. That would mean a DH on either July 3, 4, or 5 (even though the Mets are off on July 2 and 6, the Phillies are not).

Hopefully the Mets will have a better team in July than they have now.

No matter what, I say Santana should pitch tomorrow, on his normal rest. Let Maine and Hernandez wait.

Dang, I might have to open that Penskie file I brought home to work on.

I agree. That's how the Mets used Seaver, even when Koosman, Gentry and Matlack were the next scheduled pitchers.

A tweet from the NY Post says that they are backing up the rotation so Maine goes tomorrow. Also, Ollie has a bad knee so he might go on the DL.

It's not raining up here -- why don't they play the game at Opus 40?

Ollie with a bad knee? How convenient.

He kneeds to go somewhere, I suppose the DL will suffice.

I would have sworn it was Ollie's head that was bad.

The knee bone's connected to the head bone.

Perez pitches like a bonehead.

I'm not quarreling with you KC. I'm just venting some of my pent up frustration for Perez.

I can't believe Omar was crazy enough to resign Perez to a costly long-term free agent deal. I believe the Mets will be paying dearly for that deal (not just monetarily) for a long time.

I understood, I meant you win ... we just about played that out :-)

I think I was pretty middle of the road on re-signing him so I can't jump
up and down too much on Omar for that one and not be a hypocrite.

I'll guess the Mets will have plenty of upsies and downises, but that Oliver Perez will have his moments during the length of his contract, and other pitchers will give their teams fits of their own.

Maybe we need a Cousin Oliver Bunch tracking thread, to regularly check Perez against the class of pitchers after Sabathia and Burnett --- the ones with names and not initials. Maybe discount Dempster also.
