Eek. Church with an evil twin version of last night's catch. But Livan takes a risk on the sac bunt and throws his man out at third. Nice.

Chipper Jones with the bases loaded at Turner Field.

Wait, hold on-- aren't WE supposed to be the ones being cut down after baserunning boners? Aren't their middle infielders supposed to be the ones taking out Beltran/Reyes from a scoring position perch? What rabbit hole did we stumble down instead of landing at Hartsfield-Jackson?

(Anyway, nice double-play, Luis y Jose.)

Castro's new plate approach of visualizing Manuel's face on every baseball is doing wonders.

Frayed Knot
May 05 2009 06:40 PM

Not after so many pitches and LOBs

OlerudOwned
May 05 2009 06:44 PM

Speaking of plate approaches, the generally unlistenable Braves booth made an astute observation about Castillo's form. "Like he was just trying to get the bat in the way of the ball."

Livan, on the other hand, crushed that one. But Schaefer's right there.

OlerudOwned

Castro was 3-3, that ain't a water boy day at the office.

Whatever the purpose behind Manuel batting for Castro days ago, it seems to have
lit a bit of fire under his butt ... lucky Skip or Skip with a purpose, short term it's worked.

If you can't talk to yourself, who CAN you talk to? Castillo obviously agrees. Although not with himself, apparently-- he slams the glove after that third out.

The bullpen is such a huge difference than 2007. Parnell looks great. Frankie hung on. I really am happy despite the ugliness of the win. I'm not a believer in karma or superstition or whatever but in 2007 or 2008 we lose this one.

This bullpen reminds me more of the bullpen from 2006 that contributed to the Mets running away and hiding. Philly's starting pitching sucks. I feel great. Let's go Mets.

When Parnell's starting, his fastball is dialed back significantly (from 97-98 to low 90s). Also, his secondary stuff is iffy. This, along with his not-so-overwhelming minor-league numbers (compiled as a starter) paint a picture of an effective fastball-slider late-inning reliever; he COULD be an effective starter, but it seems kind of unlikely.
