Eek. Church with an evil twin version of last night's catch. But Livan takes a risk on the sac bunt and throws his man out at third. Nice.

Chipper Jones with the bases loaded at Turner Field.

Livan houdinis out of a bases loaded jam after Chipper lines hard into a double play. Haha. Suck it, Jones.

Wait, hold on-- aren't WE supposed to be the ones being cut down after baserunning boners? Aren't their middle infielders supposed to be the ones taking out Beltran/Reyes from a scoring position perch? What rabbit hole did we stumble down instead of landing at Hartsfield-Jackson?

Nice catch by Beltran!

Castro's new plate approach of visualizing Manuel's face on every baseball is doing wonders.
Frayed Knot May 05 2009 06:40 PM |
We can't be letting this Kamikazi guy off the hook with only 2 runs.
OlerudOwned May 05 2009 06:44 PM |
Speaking of plate approaches, the generally unlistenable Braves booth made an astute observation about Castillo's form. "Like he was just trying to get the bat in the way of the ball."

If you can't talk to yourself, who CAN you talk to? Castillo obviously agrees. Although not with himself, apparently-- he slams the glove after that third out. (Take it easy, guy... have some Schaefer for the DPs. Though, y'know, not as much as you would have had two minutes ago.)

Sometimes this Mets team wins despite themselves. Not often enough, mind you, but sometimes. Tonight seems to have been one of those games.
Rotblatt May 05 2009 08:30 PM |
Ugh. A win is a win, I know, but why doesn't it feel that way?
Elster88 May 05 2009 08:31 PM |
I hold out hope that the 11-1 games are coming. Wright is starting to mash. Reyes doing more would be nice. Beltran is a god among mortals.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 05 2009 08:36 PM |
I'm hoping too but this year smells a lot like 2007 already.
Ashie62 May 05 2009 08:40 PM |
Do I get any Schaefer as the last minute IGT guy? We did win
Elster88 May 05 2009 08:40 PM |
The bullpen is such a huge difference than 2007. Parnell looks great. Frankie hung on. I really am happy despite the ugliness of the win. I'm not a believer in karma or superstition or whatever but in 2007 or 2008 we lose this one.
Ashie62 May 05 2009 08:41 PM |
Thats not very Met-like
Ashie62 May 05 2009 08:42 PM |
Parnell should be starting
Elster88 May 05 2009 08:44 PM |
I like things the way they are. Heilman-Sanchez-Wagner was huge in 2006. You've been wrong in the past, here's hoping you're wrong again.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 05 2009 08:57 PM |
When Parnell's starting, his fastball is dialed back significantly (from 97-98 to low 90s). Also, his secondary stuff is iffy. This, along with his not-so-overwhelming minor-league numbers (compiled as a starter) paint a picture of an effective fastball-slider late-inning reliever; he COULD be an effective starter, but it seems kind of unlikely.
Ashie62 May 05 2009 08:59 PM |
I was just thinking he could dominate as a starter and we do have a need..Then again you are right about the bullpen..It's all good.
Gwreck May 05 2009 10:05 PM |
Wasn't worried for a second. Francsisco gets paid the big-boy dollars to deal with situations just like that.
