Yer home 9...

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 08 2009 05:20 PM |
Oh, Nyjer... if you let go of the bag, it won't be your bag anymore.

Ahoy Ye Mateys! Captain Niese on the mound and Karstens walking the plank
Ashie62 May 08 2009 05:47 PM |
That inaugural patch on Niese is huge
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 08 2009 05:49 PM |
Couple of hits, couple of steals, a sprig of Delgado to perk up the flavor (and cut through the shift)... and you got a stew going!
Ashie62 May 08 2009 05:49 PM |
Niese now has the highest Mets batting average

Benjamin Grimm May 08 2009 06:34 PM |
Niese is making a case for himself tonight.
Kong76 May 08 2009 06:56 PM |
That was a nice decoy play an inning or so ago by Reyes when Niese threw
metsguyinmichigan May 08 2009 06:58 PM |
I like this kid!
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 08 2009 06:58 PM |
Niese has been solid (though Morgan, Sanchez and Mclouth seem to have him solved). Otherwise, we be wendin' our way through some doldrums, me hearties.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 08 2009 07:01 PM |
More O please.

Ken Takahashi Fan Club +++++++
Fman99 May 08 2009 07:20 PM |
I wonder why they go to Green (ERA 8.76) instead of Stokes (ERA 0.00) there.
Swan Swan H May 08 2009 07:29 PM |
I'm not joining the Ken Takahashi Fan Club until he doubles off of Randy Johnson.
Kong76 May 08 2009 07:31 PM |
I think we should refer to the bullpen as the bullcave until further review.
Swan Swan H May 08 2009 07:32 PM |
Now I'm visualizing cattle hanging upside-down from the roof.
Fman99 May 08 2009 07:34 PM |
Parnell throws some smoke. Fun to watch.
Swan Swan H May 08 2009 07:34 PM |
OK, top of the order in the bottom of the eighth. Time to strike!
Kong76 May 08 2009 07:36 PM |
ORDER O
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 08 2009 07:39 PM |
Steal, don't bunt. Or steal, THEN bunt.
Edgy DC May 08 2009 07:40 PM |
Kong76 May 08 2009 07:41 PM |
Or don't do either and draw a walk.
Fman99 May 08 2009 07:42 PM |
Get the rally caps on. First and second, no outs, big bats up.
Swan Swan H May 08 2009 07:43 PM |
This has the makings, it does. Of what, I'm not sure.
Fman99 May 08 2009 07:43 PM |
There we go!
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 08 2009 07:44 PM |
I got my rally Toolsheds on.
Frayed Knot May 08 2009 07:44 PM |
So now that we got a lead aren't you tempted to run Parnell out there again for the 9th?
Swan Swan H May 08 2009 07:45 PM |
Putz didn't shave off that landing strip of his to sit in the 'pen.
Frayed Knot May 08 2009 07:47 PM |
Oh I know what's going to happen. But (assuming we don't get to the 9-hole and PH) we KNOW Parnell is on today and we don't know what Putz will be so there's no point in making the switch
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 08 2009 07:48 PM |
PARTY TIME!

Sure, but I'd be shocked if Jerry would, given his history. DELGADO!
Frayed Knot May 08 2009 07:49 PM |
And now it's more or less a moot point.
Frayed Knot May 08 2009 07:50 PM |
Went to that curve-ball well once too often me thinks.

Brutal night for Brandon Moss.
Ashie62 May 08 2009 07:54 PM |
I don't know which is better..Delgado's bomb or The Only Ones Another Girl Another Planet
Swan Swan H May 08 2009 07:55 PM |
I'm not much with the ballet. Was Moss's leap more of a plie or a pas de basque?

As an in-game strategist, Jerry would make a fantastic Little League coach.

What did he do to get him bumped down from professional well paid guy to
Swan Swan H May 08 2009 08:05 PM |
Sheffield may not be hitting much, but he either has a great eye or is drawing a lot of respect - six hits and eleven walks so far, adding up to a semi-respectable .360 OBP.

How many more runners before we enter 'damn thing' territory?

Putz is not getting the sip of Schaefer that I had initially thought I'd be giving him tonight.

Stop pitching like a putz!
Edgy DC May 08 2009 08:25 PM |
Everybody in the field level seats just looked toward the bullpen.
Kong76 May 08 2009 08:26 PM |
I think our team is on a roll.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 08 2009 08:26 PM |
Not that he's been bad but has JJ completed an inning in less than 10 minutes yet this year?
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 08 2009 08:26 PM |
It Putz it in the books. Finalmente.

Whew!

Rotblatt May 08 2009 08:30 PM |
A fine win! I do like this Niese kid. Do we know how long he's going to stick around yet?
The Big O May 08 2009 08:40 PM |
Putz? With a 5-run lead? Really?
Fman99 May 08 2009 08:58 PM |
You have to think he's earned another start, next week versus Atlanta. With Ollie still on the DL the only other choices are Redding, who just went in AAA, and Figgie who's been blackballed apparently.
Benjamin Grimm May 08 2009 09:06 PM |

He was warmed up when it looked like it might be a save situation. I was expecting to see Stokes on the mound for the ninth, though.

Those bullpens are absurd. I have a feeling that in the next year or so, the architects will be called in to revisit the design.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 08 2009 09:12 PM |
Bullpen design is one thing CBP has over Citi (and one thing they absolutely nailed).
Rotblatt May 08 2009 09:19 PM |
I certainly do! The only other option I can think of would be Takahashi, but given how well Niese looked tonight, I'd go with him.
I agree with that. Someone over in the Citi thread suggested re-orienting the two pens so that they run perpendicular to the field, and that makes a lot of sense to me. It wouldn't be as nice as CBP, but it'll be better.
Rockin' Doc May 08 2009 09:50 PM |
Edgy was the mastermind that suggested rotating the two bullpens 90 degrees. Seems like the easiest and most logical solution to the current set up.
Gwreck May 08 2009 10:17 PM |
I liked Niese tonight. No walks. I thought he struggled with control when we saw him last September.
Benjamin Grimm May 09 2009 05:00 AM |
Another option for that next start may be Redding, but I hope it goes to Niese.

You can join these guys - I spotted them at the game last night... Fun game last night, my second win at The City (now 2-2), and the first time I've seen the Apple go up in person (thank you Carlos). I also happened to scream "Show me the Apple Carlos!" immediately before he launched that shot (I've got witnesses), so my supernatural Mets powers seem to still be strong this season. The key I think is that I use them in moderation... They also put in the base markers in the parking lot where showing where they were in Shea. (home plate, 1st, 2nd & 3rd and the pitching rubber). The Yankee fan is my son's friend.
Kong76 May 09 2009 08:50 AM |
Way to protect that throwing arm.
Edgy DC May 09 2009 11:27 AM |
Now we have a point of orientation from which to chalk in the rest of the park.
