That's it. Save Churchie for the lefthander.

What has Sheffield done to deserve to bat fourth? What did Church do to Manuel that he's getting benched all the time andnow batting 8th? Reyes, Castillo, Beltran, Wright, Church, Tatis, Sheffield, Castro, Niese, please.

I'd switch Tatis and Church in that hupothetical lineup(lefty on the mound, and Tatis is swinging a much hotter bat of late), but, yeah, point taken. JCL and I both noted that when Reed was plugged in on Monday night (and this was echoed on Tuesday), he was batting ahead of Omir. Not sure what Churchy did, but it must be a doozy...

Nevermind tripling-- Luis can hit it OVER OUTFIELDERS?

I'm getting there. I'm at least sick of them wasting starts on Sheffield.

Two pearls from Jon Heyman, the most overrated--OHMIGOD, it's the KARS FOR KIDS COMMERCIAL! ARGH!!!--"expert" in the business. The former is unattributed, the second his observation:

Really? Gamecast tells me bases are loaded. One of you two is lying.

Tatis, a man familiar with grand slams. I hope he gets a chance to tie his record!

6-4 white hats.
|
Nymr83 May 13 2009 12:22 PM |
I think Tatis should BREAK his record, preferably at Yankee Stadium in the 1st inning against Andy Pettite and a few relievers. I'd love to see that place completely devoid of Yankees fans during an interleague game.
|
Nymr83 May 13 2009 12:24 PM |
HUGE GIGANTIC ENORMOUS inning for Niese here against the top of the braves order, don't give it back!!
|
Edgy DC May 13 2009 12:25 PM |
You know, we are going to need a centerfielder's speed in right field in this ballpark.
|
metsguyinmichigan May 13 2009 12:25 PM |

Hell, the place is devoid of Yankee fans in the lower levels during regular games, based on what I've seen on Sportscenter.
|
metirish May 13 2009 12:26 PM |
A nice way for Tatis to welcome Willets for his first game at Citi Field.

Wow, they're pitching to Chipper.

Awesome. We're going to have two walk-offs in two days.

Benjamin Grimm May 13 2009 01:55 PM |
Okay, Frankie got us out of the inning. Who's next? My vote is for Takahashi.
|
Fman99 May 13 2009 01:55 PM |
Churchie with the cannon and Frankie throwing darts. That's a recipe for 9th inning fantasticness.

My issue was more fatigue-related, since he hadn't gone two innings in a game since '07, and they were bringing him right back. But its all good.
|
holychicken May 13 2009 01:57 PM |
I am on board for the nice defensive play followed by the walk off homer to get church out of the slump.
|
Centerfield May 13 2009 01:58 PM |
Please don't bunt here.

Frayed Knot May 13 2009 01:58 PM |

|
Frayed Knot May 13 2009 02:00 PM |
I don't mind the bunt there.
|
Edgy DC May 13 2009 02:00 PM |
If we're going to send a pinch-hitter up to bunt, why not Maine or Santana?
|
holychicken May 13 2009 02:00 PM |
|
If ever a time there were for a sac bunt (oe)with a man on first, this would be it, IMO.
|
Fman99 May 13 2009 02:01 PM |
Meh. Reyes K's, it's up to Luis.
|
Frayed Knot May 13 2009 02:01 PM |
Of course Reyes striking out isn't part of the plan.
|
Nymr83 May 13 2009 02:02 PM |

I'd prefer to keep Santana's left hand (the one that goes "up" the bat on a bunt attempt and his pitching hand) as far away from a baseball moving at 90 MPH as possible.
|
Gwreck May 13 2009 02:03 PM |
If they wanna walk Luis to get to Beltran, I've got no objection.
|
Nymr83 May 13 2009 02:04 PM |

|
Benjamin Grimm May 13 2009 02:06 PM |

Nothing like extra-innings on getaway day before a coast-to-coast flight w/no day off.
|
Fman99 May 13 2009 02:07 PM |
OK, Greenie. One down.
|
Edgy DC May 13 2009 02:07 PM |

Feliciano in and gets a quick force at 2nd. Two outs, runner on 1st for McCann.
|
Fman99 May 13 2009 02:13 PM |
Feliciano! Gets two outs on two pitches. I love it.
|
Gwreck May 13 2009 02:13 PM |

They're flying to San Francisco (6 hours) in the lap of luxury on their chartered airplane, with prearranged transportation from park to plane to hotel. Even if they were to not leave NY until 9 tonight, they'd arrive in SF at midnight and not have to play a game until 7 PM (local time) that night. Unless the Mets require 15 hours of sleep each, I can't see how this would be an issue. Travel day complaints are a load of BS in my opinion. If they were flying commercial coach and had to take public transportation, then I might have some sympathy.

a good reason to use him before bringing your last reliever into the game, because he wont pinch-hit for anyone else and takahashi basically cant be removed at this point unless a starter is going to pitch

It wasn't the fence that went into a premature trot.

Blerch. Strikes out on 3 pitches. Two down for Sheff.
|
Benjamin Grimm May 13 2009 02:54 PM |
I can see what's coming: Wright will end the game, stranding the tying run at third.
|
Edgy DC May 13 2009 02:54 PM |
Oh, scabs.

metsguyinmichigan May 13 2009 02:55 PM |
Oh, Carlos. We needed a deep fly there. The ball in play at least.
|
Edgy DC May 13 2009 02:55 PM |
Steal home, Jose.

We've swung at a lot of shit out of the zone this inning.

Centerfield May 13 2009 02:58 PM |
This one hurts. Lots of time to kill before tomorrow night.
|
holychicken May 13 2009 03:06 PM |
I am REALLY getting sick of this BS from Reyes. Sloppy play in the field and boneheaded baserunning blunders. He needs to be smacked into shape.
|
Rotblatt May 14 2009 04:57 AM |
Gah. This one hurt.
|
soupcan May 14 2009 06:37 AM |
They could easily have been swept in this series. Be happy that they weren't, that they went 6-2 on the homestand and go on the road alone in first place. 10 days ago we'd have all been incredibly happy with that.

True. The loss was softened by the fact that everyone else in the division lost AND we are still in first place.
|
Edgy DC May 14 2009 09:10 AM |
Extra inning losses don't hurt more than other losses to me. It's some (not all) of the management choices that frustrate me more than the result.
