Reyes benched or just getting a night off? Dave Lennon tweets that it's a stiff, right calf.

Reyes with the night off after a tiring trot around the bases yesterday.

Well, he didn't quite make it all the way around.

Any statement from Jerry about this being punitive?

Y'know what would be another good "punishment"? ... Put him in the 2-hole starting tomorrow w/Castillo up top.

Isn't this a direct quote from yourself?

Edgy DC
May 14 2009 07:57 PM

That right calf business really takes any of the sting out of a benching, for those of us looking for a little more emotional blood.

Anyhow, assuming that calf report is no bull, this makes our short bench ubershort.

You have not yet reached the age (or mental state) where one often
repeats themselves regardless of whether it's been said or anyone
heard it or even cares that you said it.

I fear as a Mets fan about Reyes if he doesn't get reeled in and soon.

Jerry Manuel... face saver?

Are we sure the plane didn't go through a wormhole, and land the team in Bizarro San Francisco?

Cora singles and steals, and Sheff has a chance for a 2-out RBI.

Puh-lenty of good seats available. Hokey smokes, the joint looks empty.

A dribbler and a steal by Burriss, and Maine is in a spot of trouble already.

KTE outtake: For the past two weeks, Burriss has been like Bonifacio was during the first two weeks (.375 avg/.444 OBP). Only one hit has been for extra bases.

Swan Swan H
May 14 2009 08:43 PM

Cora gets eaten up by a Sandoval shot, then a high fastball from Maine to Molina is not high, and is appropriately hit hard into left-center. 1-1, 1st & 2nd, 1 out.

A WP, and a sac fly make it 2-1 Jints, slow runner on 2nd. Another WP moves Molina to 3rd. Lewis walks, I have to get up at 6:15 tomorrow morning, and Maine is making me cranky already.

themetfairy
May 14 2009 08:45 PM

Maine looks like crap out there.

Kong76
May 14 2009 08:47 PM

I was gonna watch three innings, now I'm gonna watch three outs in the
bottom of the first (after 35 minutes) and go to sleep.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
May 14 2009 08:47 PM

I don't care how many guys get walked, or how hard this asshole gets hit-- if I'm Jerry, he's staying out there for 200 pitches.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
May 14 2009 08:57 PM

So... is playing his primary position tonight disorienting for Mr. Cora?

Swan Swan H
May 14 2009 09:00 PM

Cora is not distinguishing himself with the glove today. He probably should have taken charge on Burriss' dribbler in the first, didn't make a tough play on Sandoval, and now he short-arms one past Castillo to set up 1st and 2nd, no out.

Maine showing some gumption in getting the next three batters.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
May 14 2009 09:11 PM

Sheff and DWright are wrestling for that Schaefer.

2-out rally = smile time!

Swan Swan H
May 14 2009 09:14 PM

Wright trying to steal second gets Molina out of his crouch just a bit early, and he lets a slurve or something go to the wall. Sheff crosses with the go-ahead run - 3-2 Metsies.

A personal fave-- either 2 parts happy, 1 part creepy or the other way, depending on the baby's type of smile.

And Johnny boy's on cruise control now. Which is good, because he'll be driving for 8 innings or so.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
May 14 2009 09:27 PM

Molina sluggish on a Maine bunt?

No. He was skurred. Bases tanked, no out.

The Giants, for one, hit significantly better than we do with the bases loaded. The Phillies are playing an entirely different game in the same situation.

The key for me was spending the first 5 innings in an epic balance the checkbook/pay the bills session.
