Reyes with the night off after a tiring trot around the bases yesterday.
Edgy DC May 14 2009 06:41 PM |
Well, he didn't quite make it all the way around.

WoW. Jer-ry Jer-ry Jer-ry

Y'know what would be another good "punishment"? ... Put him in the 2-hole starting tomorrow w/Castillo up top.

That right calf business really takes any of the sting out of a benching, for those of us looking for a little more emotional blood.

Jerry Manuel... face saver? Are we sure the plane didn't go through a wormhole, and land the team in Bizarro San Francisco?
seawolf17 May 14 2009 08:06 PM |
Sometimes I think he's a time bomb who's gonna push the envelope once too often with a manager, teammates, and the fans.

Cora singles and steals, and Sheff has a chance for a 2-out RBI.
Edgy DC May 14 2009 08:25 PM |
Way to leave the interstate, Gary.
Swan Swan H May 14 2009 08:28 PM |
Guy in the front row looks like Cousin Oliver at age 50.

argh, pass the acetone for my eyes.

A dribbler and a steal by Burriss, and Maine is in a spot of trouble already.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 14 2009 08:41 PM |
KTE outtake: For the past two weeks, Burriss has been like Bonifacio was during the first two weeks (.375 avg/.444 OBP). Only one hit has been for extra bases.
Swan Swan H May 14 2009 08:43 PM |
Cora gets eaten up by a Sandoval shot, then a high fastball from Maine to Molina is not high, and is appropriately hit hard into left-center. 1-1, 1st & 2nd, 1 out.
themetfairy May 14 2009 08:45 PM |
Maine looks like crap out there.
Kong76 May 14 2009 08:47 PM |
I was gonna watch three innings, now I'm gonna watch three outs in the
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 14 2009 08:47 PM |
I don't care how many guys get walked, or how hard this asshole gets hit-- if I'm Jerry, he's staying out there for 200 pitches.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 14 2009 08:57 PM |
So... is playing his primary position tonight disorienting for Mr. Cora?
Swan Swan H May 14 2009 09:00 PM |
Cora is not distinguishing himself with the glove today. He probably should have taken charge on Burriss' dribbler in the first, didn't make a tough play on Sandoval, and now he short-arms one past Castillo to set up 1st and 2nd, no out.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 14 2009 09:11 PM |
Sheff and DWright are wrestling for that Schaefer.
Swan Swan H May 14 2009 09:14 PM |
Wright trying to steal second gets Molina out of his crouch just a bit early, and he lets a slurve or something go to the wall. Sheff crosses with the go-ahead run - 3-2 Metsies.
Swan Swan H May 14 2009 09:15 PM |
Yow, that's a creepy picture. Makes one wish for cloud cover.
themetfairy May 14 2009 09:16 PM |
No - that's the baby in the sun from Teletubbies.
Swan Swan H May 14 2009 09:19 PM |
Meanwhile, Maine cruises through a 1-2-3 inning.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 14 2009 09:19 PM |
A personal fave-- either 2 parts happy, 1 part creepy or the other way, depending on the baby's type of smile. And Johnny boy's on cruise control now. Which is good, because he'll be driving for 8 innings or so.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 14 2009 09:27 PM |
Molina sluggish on a Maine bunt?
Swan Swan H May 14 2009 09:30 PM |
Molina and Sandoval looked like Phil and Don Vito in the opening credits of Viva La Bam.
metsguyinmichigan May 14 2009 09:32 PM |
Po was the best Teletubby. I can only imagine what they were drinking before the brainstorming meeting when that show was created. "Wait, here's my idea, four lumpy humanish things with televisions in their guts!" "Whoa!"
Nymr83 May 14 2009 09:33 PM |
Bases Loaded. nobody out, Mets only get 1-run seems to be a repeating theme that I've been seeing for years already.

You and every other fan of every other team.
Elster88 May 14 2009 09:57 PM |
I have a feeling that Manuel has achieved his goal of putting Castro into a slump.

Not every other team. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/stats/byteam?cat=Situational&cut_type=94&conference=MLB&year=season_2009&sort=722 The Giants, for one, hit significantly better than we do with the bases loaded. The Phillies are playing an entirely different game in the same situation.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 14 2009 10:07 PM |
With that walk, Sanchez hits 115 (!) pitches.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 14 2009 10:10 PM |
Cora still hasn't gotten the memo.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 14 2009 10:12 PM |
You know I coulda gone to bed there, Beltran.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 14 2009 10:24 PM |
Johnny Boy sure does take the scenic route, no?
Elster88 May 14 2009 10:35 PM |
John Maine staying on despite already having thrown 108 pitches. I like that a lot. I've hated the majority of Manuel's decisions this year but two good ones so far today.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 14 2009 10:43 PM |
Last 11 pitches = 5 outs.
Swan Swan H May 14 2009 10:52 PM |
Damn. Parnell ate up Lewis, but he squirted one out of Parnell's reach for a single.
metsguyinmichigan May 14 2009 10:59 PM |
Oh Bobby, let's get a DP here and get out of this.

He's thrown a first-pitch strike to exactly one batter this inning. Tough to get far when you're constantly fighting your way uphill, you know?
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 14 2009 11:01 PM |
Nice K, Bobby.
Frayed Knot May 14 2009 11:01 PM |
That was a huge K - need one more baby
Swan Swan H May 14 2009 11:02 PM |
Big strikeout of Aurilia. Now just pop up Renteria and get this over with.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 14 2009 11:02 PM |
Fuck. Cora actually does suck
metsguyinmichigan May 14 2009 11:02 PM |
Dammit. Infield hits.
Frayed Knot May 14 2009 11:03 PM |
Two dinky hits in the inning but he's got no one to blame for the walk.
Swan Swan H May 14 2009 11:05 PM |

John Cougar Lunchbucket May 14 2009 11:08 PM |
God only knows what we'll do against this guy.

Swan Swan H May 14 2009 11:09 PM |
Beltran's double makes me smiley smile.

John Cougar Lunchbucket May 14 2009 11:10 PM |

apmorris May 14 2009 11:11 PM |
edgy
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 14 2009 11:11 PM |
He gets around (the tag).

Frayed Knot May 14 2009 11:11 PM |
Carlos be playing with fire on those 3B steals this week.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 14 2009 11:12 PM |
Would you consider going double-steal here?
apmorris May 14 2009 11:12 PM |
Dave, I'd hate to tell you this but ...
apmorris May 14 2009 11:13 PM |
Mr. Clutch
Swan Swan H May 14 2009 11:13 PM |
Wilson just wasn't made for these times.
Frayed Knot May 14 2009 11:13 PM |
I could get used to clutch hits like that all summer long
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 14 2009 11:14 PM |

Fidelity (Castro) Insurance!

Was thinking about avoidance of the DP. A bit brazen, to be sure... but doable.
metsguyinmichigan May 14 2009 11:18 PM |
Bobby sets himself for a vulture win. Needs to take Maine out for dinner for this one.
Frayed Knot May 14 2009 11:18 PM |
7 SBs for the night - a new club record.
Swan Swan H May 14 2009 11:22 PM |
Let's get this over with so I can go in my room and get some sleep.

Went to bed with a 4-2 lead in the 6th and woke up to see that the Giants tied it up on some BS infield hits but the BATS came through late again!
Fman99 May 15 2009 06:32 AM |

I couldn't do it, too tired (plus 3 beers at golf didn't exactly add to my stamina). I'm going to try and get a 5 PM nap in today so I can watch tonight's game in its entirety.
Swan Swan H May 15 2009 06:57 AM |
So while the Mets were rallying to win the game, Fman was lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did.
metirish May 15 2009 07:05 AM |
Maine sent me to bed with his long second? inning....I'm repeating myself here but I'm lame and apparently getting lamer.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 15 2009 07:07 AM |

Oh, there's a bunch more of those in the thread. (If there are more late-game heroics, I'm guessing you'll see some more-- thanks, prolific Beach Boys catalog!)
Edgy DC May 15 2009 07:12 AM |
I bailed after inning two also. I'll try again tonight. Let's get together and do it again.
themetfairy May 15 2009 07:14 AM |
D-Dad and I made it until midnight, and then I woke up in the middle of the night to see what happened.

JCL and FK posted Beach Boys references at the very same moment (lest anyone be confused about relationships here) and it was on.

I don't know how you other middle-aged people do it, staying up to watch West Coast games on a school night.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 15 2009 07:28 AM |
The key for me was spending the first 5 innings in an epic balance the checkbook/pay the bills session.
themetfairy May 15 2009 08:07 AM |
The Mets Fast Forward of this game went straight from the top of the 2nd to the bottom of the 8th. Not too much happened during the game's creamy middle, according to SNY.
soupcan May 15 2009 08:31 AM |

That was my story too, except I woke up thinking for some reason that the Mets had lost 9-4. Tonight I'm having an espresso at about 9:30 pm.
