Manny Ramirez Suspended...

For 50 games for testing positive for banned substance.

According to WFAN.

Whoa!

I wonder if those guys who were demonstrating in front of the SNY studios have egg on their faces.

Probably not. They'll argue that even only 112 games of Manny at $25 million per year is just what the team needs.

I wonder if the Dodgers have to pay him.

Stupid question I guess, I don't think Boras would allow any clause like that in a contract but in this day and age why wouldn't a club insist on a clause like that in a contract?

The players union has come out against performance enhancers (in public anyway). They could hardly object to clauses like that and still convince anybody they're anti-'roid.

I hope his salary goes to charity.

RealityChuck

IIRC, a suspension with cause means no pay. I doubt even Boras could change that.

Ah, the ol' "down in Miami" defense.

Seriously, how can you sympathize with any club that doesn't have their own medical personnel screening every phamaceutical --- if not every last can of who hash --- that goes into a player's body?

Right, I'm reasonably sure that it would be one of those things written into the standard player's agreement -- IOW, a blanket agreement between the owners and union that is automatically transferred to each contract.

SNY ran one of their in-game pools the other night asking which NL Division leader had the best chance of winning their division.

1 - Phillies

2 Cardinals

3 - Dodgers

much laughing was had in the booth , Dodgers at the time were five games up , now 6.5 games up. That division just got more interesting.

I still think it's the Dodgers. Manny would be back before the All-Star break (just in time to face the Mets at Citi) and I don't see any of those other teams stepping up in the West.

Certainly not a sure thing, though.

On re-read, looks like Edgy already said what I said.

I just want to make it clear to Mr. McCourt (and Mr. Wilpon and every other owner) that I am willing to follow around Manny (or some other superstar) and make sure everything he takes isn't on the list. Call within the next twenty minutes (because you know I can't do this all day) and I'll do it for a just a few million a year.

This is my first thought. I think if Manny is within a block of a pharmacy (or a guy selling something on a square of tin foil) then he should be tackled by his employer and rassled into submission.

WOman-ram?
] two sources told ESPN's T.J. Quinn and Mark Fainaru-Wada that the drug used by Ramirez is HCG -- human chorionic gonadotropin. HCG is a women's fertility drug typically used by steroid users to restart their body's natural testosterone production as they come off a steroid cycle. It is similar to Clomid, the drug Bonds, Giambi and others used as clients of BALCO.

He wanted to test the feasibility of 'Manny breeding Manny.'

He wanted to look good in a strapless gown.

His dreads were getting split ends.

He was considering signing with the Nationals, and heard they were a bunch of 'softball girls.'

I doubt they can legally do so. The whole doctor-patient privacy law stops the teams from being able to force the players to do so, I would imagine.

Quinn jumped from the NYDN to ESPN at least a year or so ago.
Seems to have been hired specifically to work on their drug reporting (for baseball of course, there are no drug problems in the NFL)

Not sure if Fainaru-Wada is still with his SF paper and just doing extra work for ESPN or if he's switched to them full time too.

Because Brady Anderson's career was otherwise so forgettable that he's been, well, forgotten. If he was a HOF candidate, people would be talking about him for sure.

At this point, everybody's a suspect. I see no point in singling anyone out before clear evidence comes up against them.
