I'm trying to see who else in Met history has saved four games in a row. The first guy I checked is Armando. I got him saving four in a row (over five days) from August 18-22, 2001 (none big, I assure you), after throwing a mopup inning on the 17th.

He got a game off and came back and saved another and would continue to pitch almost three games in four the rest of the season.

Looking at his successors, certainly neither Weathers nor Stanton ever did it in the partial season after Benitez was traded. Looper had some nice streaks, but over consecutive appearances, not over consecutive games. Heilman and Roberto Hernandez didn't do it.

Which brings us to Billy Wagner. His high was three saves in three games, which it looks like the did thrice. Luis Ayala? Not quite.

So, if anybody wants to check before Benitez, please be my guestical. Else (and the postgame report may have already made this clearer), I think Francisco just tied a record.

It's an answer to a different question, but I looked back at his game logs, and converting 4 saves in 4 days is actually not new to him. While he did not do so during his record-setting 2008, he did nail down 4 straight one other time, from April 28 - May 1, 2007.

Neil Allen saved 7 saves in 9 games..McDowell had lots of 5's with a break..

Turnbow was never a Met. And he wasn't drafted until 1997.

I can't find John Franco ever doing it. I do have him getting saves in games 85, 87, and 88 in 1997, and pitching two scoreless innings in game 86, a 12-inning win over the Pirates. But that must've been wrapped around the All Star break, because game 86 came on July 6, and game 87 wasn't until the 10th.

Anthony Young never did it, but he did get holds in two straight games followed by saves in the next two games in 1992. That was a nice little run in a luckless season.

Do you mean four Mets games in a row, or four consecutive appearances by the pitcher? If it's the former, I can probably do some SQLing for you.

Four Met games in a row would be the tougher deed and the one I think we're looking for here as that's what Rodriguez just did.
I would think most closers have, at one point or another, chalked up saves in at least four appearances seeing as how they pretty much only get used in save situations.

Yeah, we're looking for the most saves by a single player in consecutive games by a Mets team.

I found three four-game streaks.

Armando Benitez, beginning August 18, 2001.

Braden Looper, beginning May 31, 2004.

Francisco Rodriguez, beginning May 4, 2009.

That streak by Looper was surrounded by losses to the Marlins where Armando Benitez got the saves.

Coolio. I missed the Looper run. I'm glad I didn't have to scratch through Skip Lockwood's record, though.

So we're going for history now.

I don't know why my SQL didn't pick up Turnbow in 1996.
