A friend, a woman, nearly perfect in every manner. Engaged to a textbook douchebag that's going to make her miserable. How do these things come to pass?

Then he comes home and treats people like shit. She brought him to my wife's birthday dinner. My friend Tim recognized him. It turned out they went to rival high schools in the Pittsburgh area and competed against each other for years in forensics. But before Tim had put the pieces together, he slid down and introduced himself, and said "I'm certain I know you from somewhere." As a general rule - if you like the gal and want to maintain the friendship - keep your lip zipped. She's made her choice, nothing you say is going to change her mind and she doesn't value your opinion as much as she does his. Once she knows you dislike her beau, the relationship between you and she will change for the worse. She's an adult, can make her decisions and there are things about her that you do not know which attracts her to douchebags. Sigh for her and move on.
