Who would have imagined that Sheffield would be getting more regular playing time than either Church or Murphy?

"Heh... me."

Flerg. 1-0. (I'm not saying that's because he went 1-0 on 4 of the first 5 hitters, but it may not be unrelated.)
Zvon May 17 2009 06:26 PM |
What was that all about? It didn't look like he stumbled or anything.
Zvon May 17 2009 06:37 PM |
Take the walk Santos.
Zvon May 17 2009 06:38 PM |
Woot.
Zvon May 17 2009 06:43 PM |
aww shit. Home to first DP.

Flerg.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 17 2009 06:59 PM |
Opportunity's been knocking on the front, side and back doors, and this lineup is suddenly social-phobic.
Zvon May 17 2009 07:01 PM |
Your right but it's early yet. Joe Morgan is a flerg.
Nymr83 May 17 2009 07:02 PM |
You thought Joe Morgan was bad? Steve fucking Phillips is in the booth with him.
Zvon May 17 2009 07:02 PM |
Cora out?
metsguyinmichigan May 17 2009 07:05 PM |
Have we seen Tatis at short before?
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 17 2009 07:05 PM |
This disturbs in at least three ways. And no. No, we have not.
Zvon May 17 2009 07:08 PM |
No word on why yet.

Thumb injury?
Zvon May 17 2009 07:10 PM |
Maybe they took him out cause so many people think he sucks.
Mendoza Line May 17 2009 07:15 PM |
BBref says that Tatis has played a total of eight innings at short in his career.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 17 2009 07:15 PM |
After the Murphy at-bat, Cain is at 80 pitches exactly.
Zvon May 17 2009 07:20 PM |
Flergiefloog.
metirish May 17 2009 07:21 PM |
Phillips looks like George Hamilton with his bottle tan.....
Zvon May 17 2009 07:23 PM |
Jeeze Joe, where did Johnny Bench bat?
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 17 2009 07:24 PM |
Not like we're losing a helluva defensive shortstop anyhow.

Hint: when watching Sunday Night Baseball and not in a bar/restaurant, hit "mute" and put on the music of your choice. Fewer headaches.

The man has logged time at every position this year except center, catcher, and his primary position.
metsguyinmichigan May 17 2009 07:29 PM |
Goodness, does he ever even take a breath? STOP TALKING, JOE!! The shame is that Jon Miller really is good, and he can't get a word in edgewise. Then again, his yellow shirt and yellow tie combo is just not working.
metsguyinmichigan May 17 2009 07:30 PM |
And I think he was down in Triple-A for us a whole year without sniffing a call-up.
Zvon May 17 2009 07:43 PM |
Thats bullshit. No balk. Send him back to 1st blue

Okay, WTF? Stepping off the rubber is illegal now?
Zvon May 17 2009 07:45 PM |
Guess that lil hand move was a balk.
metirish May 17 2009 07:46 PM |
Why the fukc is Phillips killing Beltran all night....Joe is basically telling him to fukc off.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 17 2009 07:48 PM |
Not listening. But I'm guessing it's some combo of: A) Beltran is an Omar signing. B) Steve Phillips is an imbecile, who is pretty f-ing terrible at talent valuation.
Fman99 May 17 2009 07:49 PM |
ESPN hacks. Give me Gary Ron and Keith every day and especially on Sundays.
metsguyinmichigan May 17 2009 07:49 PM |

I was wondering that, too. Isn't he hitting like .360 or something? Bleeping balk.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 17 2009 07:54 PM |
It's a bit of a nippy night, the kind that makes your lap feel chilly rather quickly.
Zvon May 17 2009 07:54 PM |
Then let's begin the scoring here in the 6th.
Fman99 May 17 2009 07:57 PM |
Merkin off the pine and warming up. (I snicker every time I make that joke.)
Zvon May 17 2009 07:59 PM |
Morgan must have been listening to a different Dave Righetti interview.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 17 2009 08:05 PM |
I'm not afraid to say it again: I heart Pablo Sandoval.

Howie and Wayne confirm Cora hurt his thumb a bit on the first-inning headfirst slide.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 17 2009 08:08 PM |
Don't intentionally walk this guy, drill him in the ribs.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 17 2009 08:09 PM |
OK, let's get Big Pelf a win here.
Fman99 May 17 2009 08:09 PM |
HUGE groundout induced by big Pelf. With his spot due up you have to think he's done for the night.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 17 2009 08:10 PM |
I would've called for this:
Fman99 May 17 2009 08:13 PM |
Church to hit for Pelf. One on, one out.
Zvon May 17 2009 08:14 PM |
Damn.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 17 2009 08:16 PM |
Pelf takes a twitchy load off in the dugout. Quality starts in the face of bullshit-balk adversity are eminently smileworthy, says Creepy Sun Baby.

Wow, Sean Green shows up.
Zvon May 17 2009 08:46 PM |

just tight now. I'm thinking if he will be able to play tomorrow and can pinch hit today, maybe he should have replaced Cora. Nice inning from Green. Man, that guy took a header, lol.

ESPN couldn't get to this rubbish fast enough...Patrick Ewing guaranteed a Magic victory........finally a guarantee from Patrick that came true....never give up people....ESPN talking head said she never saw a team as loose as the Magic were at the morning shoot around...."how did you stay loose Dwight?"....I'm guessing that the Celtics were " tight" at there shoot around.....loose is like that edge stuff....you have it when you win.... I thought the Mets were " pressing " tonight...
Frayed Knot May 17 2009 09:29 PM |
90% of programming on ESPN is spent directing viewers to what else is, or is coming up, on ESPN.
Rockin' Doc May 17 2009 10:00 PM |
The only thing worse than watching Pelfrey twitch and fidget opposing baserunners into scoring position while his teammates stranded a busload of runners was listening to the ESPN announcers. Joe Morgan is annoying and repetitive, but Steve Phillips is insufferable. I don't know why I didn't just mute the television and spared myself the frustration of listening to their babbling.
Gwreck May 17 2009 10:19 PM |
I really wanted to duct tape the mouths of Miller, Morgan and Phillips by the time the game ended.

Pagan has never hit lefthanded pitching particularly well, and righties don't really hit Affeldt any better than lefties do. There was no reason at all to make that switch. PS Granted that Tatis would have wound up at short anyway, but given the team as it's currently structured, is there any reason to start somebody else at first base? And can we please stop bunting guys from second to third with no outs?
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 18 2009 07:04 AM |
At least in the first inning after a leadoff gift double. GAWD. Then to top it off, you've moved Cora to 3rd so he can score on an out and he doesn't even try when Beltran makes an out. Wonder if the thumb had something to do with that.
Frayed Knot May 18 2009 07:08 AM |
If nothing else, just have Castillo swing and maybe he'll accidently move him over with an out. It's not like he's a big strikeout risk - hell, low Ks is one of his few offensive assets.
metirish May 18 2009 07:13 AM |
Maybe I just haven't been listening but lately I here Manuel talking a lot about how this teams needs to be aggressive all the time , it's like his new mantra.
soupcan May 18 2009 07:15 AM |
No idea what this means.
metirish May 18 2009 07:18 AM |

Sorry , is bunting early in the game with now outs aggressive play or desperate play?
Frayed Knot May 18 2009 07:29 AM |
Kinda makes you wish M.I.'s posts came with sub-titles sometimes, huh?
