So... start Pagan-- worse against lefties than either Church or Murphy-- and Tatis (Lord love him, he's 2-for-25 against Wolf with 9 Ks and 3 BBs)?

Angel Pagan? why the fuck does Jerry hate Church so much? Was he abused by a priest as a child?

Holy Throneberry! Church gets called for missing third trying to score on Pagan's shot in the gap.
Elster88 May 18 2009 11:38 PM |
That won't get him off of Jerry's shit list. Plus it looks like he hurt himself. Pagan picking up where he left off last April.
Elster88 May 18 2009 11:39 PM |
Gary says it's a double for Pagan. I was wondering how to score that but I guess it makes sense if Church "never made it" to third.

OK, Furball's little flare to left doesn't do the job.
Elster88 May 18 2009 11:49 PM |
I don't like this 5 infielder thing. I'd rather play the outfield shallow. What's more likely to happen, a dink hit between the two outfielders (where a shallow centerfielder could keep the runner on third from tagging up), or a groundball up the middle that gets between second and shortstop?
Gwreck May 18 2009 11:52 PM |
I guess that could've theoretically ended worse but I'm not really sure how.
Swan Swan H May 18 2009 11:54 PM |
OK, so they shouldn't have double switched Tatis out. Stokes did a hell of a job against Furcal and Hudson, but Reed threw it away.

Some time in the mid 1980s my softball team was in game 3 of a 2-of-3 playoff series. Game tied, bottom of the inning (I don't remember which, but it was the seventh or later). Leadoff triple. We intentionally walk the next two guys and move our left fielder in to be the fifth infielder. Next batter hits it right to him on one hop. He steps on second and throws to first, a beautiful double play, as the runner on third crosses the plate to end our season. That was worse. For me, anyway.
Ashie62 May 19 2009 12:00 AM |

Gwreck May 19 2009 07:46 AM |

Church misses third while scoring go-ahead run in top of 11th. Becomes third out of inning instead of up one run with runner at second base. Pagan and Beltran fail to call each other off and ball drops in bottom of 11th, runners to second and third with nobody out. After getting first out, groundball to Jeremy Reed is fielded and thrown home but he misses plate by 10 feet and game ends.

been the best defensive option in right field BY FAR, hit pretty well pre-concussion last year, has a track record suggesting that he will hit.
Edgy DC May 19 2009 08:56 AM |
Hit and fielded well enough to deserve more consideration than the guys getting consideration over him.
Rockin' Doc May 19 2009 11:00 AM |
If Church thought he was in Manuel's doghouse before, he must be buried under the doghouse now. Church would likely have a tough time gaining admittance to the upcoming team flight for Boston, if it was up to Jerry.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 19 2009 12:25 PM |

Lost in the postgame kerfuffle over bases not touched: Stokes actually manning up on the mound and getting about 2/3 of the way toward cleaning up a mess which was only partially of his making (with an average defensive 1B, the teams are still playing).
