So... start Pagan-- worse against lefties than either Church or Murphy-- and Tatis (Lord love him, he's 2-for-25 against Wolf with 9 Ks and 3 BBs)?

I kind of wish I were surprised. Instead, I'm just perplexed-- I don't yet speak Jerry.

I don't like this 5 infielder thing. I'd rather play the outfield shallow. What's more likely to happen, a dink hit between the two outfielders (where a shallow centerfielder could keep the runner on third from tagging up), or a groundball up the middle that gets between second and shortstop?

Some time in the mid 1980s my softball team was in game 3 of a 2-of-3 playoff series. Game tied, bottom of the inning (I don't remember which, but it was the seventh or later).

Leadoff triple. We intentionally walk the next two guys and move our left fielder in to be the fifth infielder. Next batter hits it right to him on one hop. He steps on second and throws to first, a beautiful double play, as the runner on third crosses the plate to end our season.

That was worse. For me, anyway.

Church misses third while scoring go-ahead run in top of 11th. Becomes third out of inning instead of up one run with runner at second base.

Pagan and Beltran fail to call each other off and ball drops in bottom of 11th, runners to second and third with nobody out.

After getting first out, groundball to Jeremy Reed is fielded and thrown home but he misses plate by 10 feet and game ends.

Lost in the postgame kerfuffle over bases not touched: Stokes actually manning up on the mound and getting about 2/3 of the way toward cleaning up a mess which was only partially of his making (with an average defensive 1B, the teams are still playing).
