Damn , that's a weak looking lineup after the four spot.

So much for the speculation that Church would be nailed to the bench.

Yeah, but Castillo is playing like he needs a day off, and Reed might have an advantage facing RHP Billingsley. I soitenly prefer Martinez as a 2B than a SS.

Fman99
May 19 2009 06:39 PM

Funny that Church could go from being benched for the better part of two weeks to being the #5 hitter.

:sigh:

Need more lineup depth methinks.

So much for Omar telling me that Tatis and Murphy would be firstbasemen while Reed was an afterthought.

Not that they listened. Murphy runs the Mets out of the inning with white-hot David Wright at the plate. D'oh.

Seriously. They pitched around TWO batters. Eventually a pitcher is going to get a hit. Grab your balls and try to get the hitters out.

I think the Mets need to platoon Tatis and Murphy at 1st base and use Sheffield,Church and Pagan in the corner outfield spots. Murphy cannot play the outfield and it is embarrassing. Reed is a defensive replacement at best and how does Pagan get a night off after 4 hits last night??? Also they should think about FMart who is on a roll in Buffalo.

Might have gotten Billingsley out of there a bit earlier had they not handed him two of his first 8 outs (Murphy & Wright).
15 batters in he had only retired 6 of them while 3 had scored, but had 8 outs and we haven't scored since.

I liked Murphy against the lefty more than Sheffield against the righty.

I liked it even more before Gary announces on the broadcast that Sheffield wasn't feeling well yesterday and was kept out of today's lineup for the same reason.

Seriously, Jerry? You couldn't just go with Murphy against the lefty? It wasn't as if you couldn't see that the Dodgers had a righty ready in the event you went to Sheffield.

I don't know that Ramon love is his problem, but he should have pinch hit there.

I tried to mention this, but Ramon (1) had gotten into only 9 games in Buffalo, and (2) was the only viable callup.

I'd have no problem with a Castillo pinch-hitting appearance there either.
