Going into the top of the ninth with a 5-2 lead, the Indians bring in Kerry Wood. After a leadoff groundout, the Royals have gone homer, homer, walk, triple. Tie game, winning run on third with one out.

And as I type KC hits a sac fly to win. I like the Met bullpen.

My question is, at what point do you remove a closer? Do the back-to-back home runs not show you that he doesn't have it today?

I can't remember the last time I saw a designated closer yanked under any circumstances other than when he's (a) not only coughed up the lead but put the game pretty much beyond reach, and (b) has thrown 30 pitches or more.

I bet he couldn't have done that on Jerry Manuel's watch.
