="OlerudOwned":bxj0akhg]I'm OlerudOwned, and earlier today I said that Omir Santos sucks.
My father was talking about how he liked the dude, how he wasn't great by any stretch but seemed to have a knack for clutch hits. The TV had posted his line at the same moment, his average barely below his on-base, and both figures well below .300. I chuckled it off. "Feh, he kind of sucks."
Hey, I mean. He's a fastball hitter who had the presence of mind to guess fastball, and he got all of it. He still has no track record behind him, and he's still OPSing something rank. But today, Omir Santos won us a goddamned baseball game. Today, I am a jerkface.[/quote:bxj0akhg]
Don't feel bad I was basically deemed a jerkace for mentioning him as an ROY candidtate which he is. Just for today I am not a jerkface..but its' early

I apologize to and sincerely thank Ramon Martinez for his fine game last night. I was wrong to say he had no business playing at the major league level. Thankfully, lastnight he proved me wrong.
Still, I anxiously await the return of either Jose Reyes or Alex Cora, but I thank Ramon Martinez for his service in this emergency fill in role.

really? what makes it a "fact"? the last time i tried making a statistical argument with you, cleon, you got us sent to the RLF and still have yet to respond with statistics to back your own point up. Edit- if you need your memory jogged, I'm still waiting for you to back up your claim that Kaat was better than Blyleven. here's the link so you can't claim you can't find it [url:opoxbqpz]http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/7100/f8_t7111.shtml[/url:opoxbqpz]

I'm LWFS, and I've been a Livan bigot.
Even at the point during the Hot Stove months, when pitching quantity was of the essence-- and during a time when I actually pumped my fist when hearing of Garcia's signing-- I rolled my eyes when Livan was brought on board. Even as Redding was taking it on the furry chin and the Chief was getting tomahawked and Niese was getting his socks knocked off... I rolled my eyes. Even when we agreed that innings were of the essence, I rolled my eyes, and put imaginary guns in my mouth.
For the first two months of the season, I've mentally chalked up losses next to his name on series previews. When I've seen Livan's name pencilled in for a start-- I have sighed, often enough and loudly enough that my family and co-workers wonder "what's wrong." When I've seen his name pencilled in for a start I'm attending-- I've seen three in person already this year-- I've felt preemptively dyspeptic, as if I were the one eating innings while giving up one-and-a-half runners per.
Not only have I laughed along at hacky fat-pitcher jokes-- including many premised on "innings-eating" twists-- I've made my share and then some. I've referred to him among friends on multiple occasions as "Brown Grimace" and "Extra-Meat Cuban." Just yesterday, I referred to him in these precincts as "Senor Frisbee" and "the cold I just can't shake."
But he's been good. He's been demonstrably good. The Mets are 6-3 in Livan starts, and, one could reasonably argue they should be at least 7-2. He's been our best pitcher whose name doesn't rhyme with "Blohan Mantana" for two months now, and by a pretty significant margin. Despite being blown up in his only two non-quality starts, he's maintained a 4.28 ERA, and-- since his FIP's just a touch above that, and he's working a BABIP that's just about in-line with his career average-- he looks like he could do this indefinitely. Just yesterday, I watched him dance out of trouble and whip cartoony 60-mph curveballs through the drizzle and around enemy bats. I saw him throw a complete game-- I hadn't seen that since the old place. It was fun.
Then again, maybe he's having a good stretch. Maybe he's not last year's Jamie Moyer, but this year's Jamie Moyer in waiting. Maybe his engine-- never terribly efficient to begin with-- is 30 miles away from conking out, in a midseason desert of injuries and fading playoff hopes.
For the time being, however, I've got egg on my face (and, for the first time in a while, I won't feel tempted to make a joke about an overweight Cuban man eating it). Hoy, soy un grande, gordo jerkface.

Hi, my name is Fman99 and I am a jerkface.
"Hi, Fman!"
I am guilty of railing, repeatedly and stoidly, against the unbalanced schedule and the 19 games apiece against the division foes. But the old schedule wouldn't get us 19 games against this woeful bunch of has-beens and never-was'es that wear the uniform of the Washington Nationals.
It's got me just giddy, especially with me having tickets to next Sunday's Mets/Nats tilt in D.C.
