Ok, so we have a face book page.

It's called The Crane Pool Forum.

Now what do I do?

This is a forum thing, promotional or whatever. I'm getting my feet wet to
see what's under the hood and if it can be used to promote the place in some
way. We could definitely use some new blood around here.

I don't need a Facebook page, I'm pretty boring.

Kong76
May 17 2009 11:54 AM

Question: What is the public url of the forum facebook page to someone not
logged in as the owner? I'll put a link up top.

Benjamin Grimm
May 17 2009 12:09 PM

The 2008 Presidential thread is the All in the Family of this forum.

It spawned a long-running spinoff (Facebook) which now has a spinoff of its own.

We can call the Facebook thread Maude and this thread can be Good Times.

Or, if this thread goes nowhere, then the Facebook thread is The Jeffersons and this one is that short-lived spinoff that Florence the maid got.

Can someone tell what the URL for "non-fans" to get the page?

OE: Never mind, found it.

metirish

OK , so I just did a search for : NY Mets" on facebook and no sign of the new page. I went through eight pages and nothing.

Kong76
May 17 2009 01:48 PM

Google's spiders gotta find it, it's only a couple of hours old.

I don't know how well this experiment is going to work anyways. Organizations
can't become 'friends' of 'fans' without providing my name and I really don't want
to open that door. I've abandoned my anonymity on the internet a long time ago
on a bunch of levels but it's to Mets fans and only an asshole sprinkled in from time
to time. I don't want my name associated with a place that involves a lot of goofing
off and I definitely don't want to hear from people from the past. I have a listed
phone number and don't live far from where I grew up if they wanna call me.

It was a pleasure meeting the fairy (and I'm going to note here that her son is a fine poet).

My first question is why was the front page all posted up with random pictures?
One of me and adhoc Mets stuff no other forumites?

I have other questions.

Each profile has a photo section, and I and one or two others uploaded some of our old forum-related images.

They weren't uploaded to the front page, per se, but the front page notes what the last few transactions on the profile have been.

Kong76
May 30 2009 12:53 PM

I deactivated my Kevin Crane account. One thing I don't particularly like is
that once you "friend" someone they can post pictures on your wall. You can
remove them but what if you don't check for three days and you don't ap-
prove of the picture.

I'll probably cave and make a personal page when I have some time to put
some thought into it and try and re-friend with the people who I've actually
met in person here. I don't want my online world to collide too much with my
past nor present non-online world and I see a whole ton of potential for me
personally. Funny, someone mentioned social anxiety disorder (which I don't
suffer from much) but I think I have facebook anxiety disorder.

I think cooby has no'd me like three times this year.

I don't want to sound all sanctimonious or anything, though I probably will, and though I don't know how to spell it, but anyway, why do some of you peeps feel you have to go somewhere else to talk to each other when we've been doing perfectly well here for many many years? I don't get it.
Not at all.

One more thing, if I were an employer and walked by someone's office who was playing with their Facebook Page while they were being paid to be doing something for me, the next time I walked by their office, I'd be holding a Xerox box and a pink slip.

I got on FB to keep up w/ family and some friends. I've only met one CPFer in real life (metfairy & fam in Anaheim a hundred years ago, though I talked to ambler and Duan on the phone one time each, also a hundred years ago). So getting to "meet" these peeps in real life, and see them and their families in a context that's not 100% Mets (it's more like 85% over there) has been very cool for me. Not a substitute for this place or anything, just different.

PS - so glad you're not my boss. You woulda pink slipped me years ago.

Kong76
May 31 2009 12:29 PM

Just to be clear so this doesn't turn into anything ... I realize that the forum
can't be replaced by facebook in it's current state. I'm largely joking.

There are no plans to really try and move there.

Maybe my personal situation is a little unique here. Other than my wife, I
literally have no family (except her family). All of my old-time friends, people
who I am friendly with at work, etc. are so non-online oriented it's mind boggling.
One just got his first cell phone a half-a-year ago and that's only because a tenant
of his needed him once and couldn't get him and his house almost blew up.

My online friends consist 95% of baseball related things -- here and few other
places but mostly here. I just feel like putting up a real page with my real name
is an invitation to hear from all kinds of people from the last 30 years. My wife
gets requests for friending from people in California where she went to high
school for a short time before moving back to upstate New York.

I guess if it weren't for the Mets, and the pleasant opportunity to meet so many
great people over the years because we posted on metsonline or here, I'd
probably be much less of a publicly online creature.

Edgy DC
May 31 2009 03:28 PM

Top ten thingies I get I get out of Facebook:

1) A chance to play Scrabble.
2) An online contact thing that family uses
3) An e-communication thingie that isn't fattened up with spam
4) A place to catch up with friends from past lives --- I live far away from where I used to.
5) A place to be a smartass.
6-10) I got nuttin'. Storing photos, maybe.

I've got a huge friendly competitive streak and I don't have a baseball/softball/ultimate/frolf team or anything or the time to be a reliable member of one. Scrabble is it.

May 31 2009 04:55 PM

I've re-connected with a lot of people in my life via Facebook, plus I find it's a good way to quickly communicate with other people. Plus I get to talk about topics there that would probably be shouted down quickly here, since my taste in music, etc. doesn't comport with a lot of people's taste here.

Facebook is just another place to hang with people. I lead a very truncated life, and Facebook offers me the opportunity to communicate differently than how I do here. It's a supplement that works for me.

I got hooked into facebook about a month and a half ago when my cousin in NJ sent me an invite.. It really took off for me when, right after that, my mom got very sick, and was in the hospital for almost two weeks - it gave me an easy place to keep all of my assorted family and friends all over the country updated.

Jun 01 2009 09:06 AM

Like it for the Scrabble, having re-connected with some old friends (at the price of re-connecting to a bunch of old friends I could have done without ever re-connecting to), and the potential to promote my work, although by the time I got involved in FB, that ship had mostly sailed.

I wish there were less dumb shit cluttering up the screen allatime, no offense to you quiz-takers, but that's manageable too and I'm not like some FB douchebags who clutter up your screen complaining about screen clutter.

The main thing is, it's all about the stream these days, and the New Socialism, just like they say in Wired Magazine.

Didn't take long for you to get addicted. It's a difficult habit to break, too. When the little notification pops up at the bottom, I usually just hit the "undo" button real quick before it gets sent. Annoying, but I haven't looked into it much further. Another thing you can do is create a separate friends list containing only the people who play Mafia Wars. Then under "application settings" you can tell Mafia Wars to post messages ONLY to people on that list. I assume it works, since no one has complained to me about needless crap cluttering their news feed.

Some guy I knew in high school --- in eighth grade, I carried him through a dual project on the age of discovery --- has been really unloading on me for rooting against the Yankees. I'm electing to step back, let him go, and then blocking him after the playoffs. What's the point? But it's no fun stepping back when the guy continuing calling a post from several days ago "dumbass" can't be bothered to spell or punctuate correctly. Though he likes his exclamation points. I'm electing to step back, let him go, and then blocking him after the playoffs. What's the point? But it's no fun stepping back when the guy continuing calling a post from several days ago "dumbass" can't be bothered to spell or punctuate correctly. Though he likes his exclamation points. God, he loves those exclamation points. Half of me, I guess, deserves it for celebrating a loss. How ungracious. The other half, well, fuck him, fucking loser.

In the real world, unfortunately, it's not so easy to get rid of louts. But in the eWorld, when you have the tools to purge someone from your life, why hesitate to do it?

Re: Forum on Facebook (split from split from Prez)

Yeah, I've never really had a plan either. I've just been progressing through the jobs and cities pretty much in order. I will say I spent a lot of time using my skill points to build up my energy exclusively. Reason being, whenever you go up a level, your energy is refilled, which means now you can do more jobs, thus getting more experience, and enabling you to level up sooner. On top of that, the energy packs you get give you 125% of the energy, so the more energy you have to begin with, the better. As for energy packs, try not to waste them if you're close to leveling up... the best time to use them is after leveling up and depleting that energy... if that makes sense. They've done newer players a favor... now it only costs 1 skill point to increase stamina (it used to cost 2)... more stamina means more fights... which increase the chances of finding more kick-ass weaponry and other loot. Selling inventory you're not using helps reduce upkeep (in NY) and bribe penalties (in Cuba and Moscow)... clicking on the "show all items used" button will tell you what you're using when you attack someone. However... there's a cool third-party add-on called Item Analyzer here - http://martini.boatpartsrus.net/ - which tells you what you're using when attacking AND being attacked, since they differ in each case.

Today I received an unexpected fb greeting from a girl who back in the 80s turned my whole high school on its ear because: a) She moved in from Spain b) She was by orders of magnitude prettier than any other girl in school on their best day. Add to that an exotic accent, and that she hung around the art rooms because she liked to paint. Thwack. c) She was so refreshingly ignorant of the powerful social forces that had defined so many of us since elementary school, she actually went out with one of my friends. Oh, and she still got it!

AND the accent. I could do nothing but stare at her for two years as she was my then-girlfriend's roommate. I was totally persona non grata in that regard. Then came commencement day. I got a huge hug from her and a delicate whisper..."I wish we could have been together all this time". She walked away leaving me all wooded up. I never saw her again. Trust me, she was the first person I ever looked up on facebook and, sadly, not there. The then-girlfriend became the ex-girlfriend about three days later. Oh, the possibilities.

Re: Forum on Facebook (split from split from Prez)

Seems they're switching over to Rackets little by little by this board discussion comment I found googling ... Anonymous said... @MrMacMan: It is precisely because of the chance that I might be switched over to rackets that I have been buying as much NY property as I can, using up all my money every day, ignoring the fact that my ROIs are now at 110 days. Zynga said they will not eliminate properties when switching to rackets -- only that they will eliminate the ability to buy them. So more of any property = better. Also, they said they will offer the ability to trade in properties for something enticing (which they haven't yet announced). Either way, more of any property = better. Anyways, I expanded my rackets some and have fifteen -- five each in Little Italy, Hell's Kitchen and Bensonhurst. I think I'll hold off spending $10,000,000 to move into the Upper East side right now thank you lol.

the daily chance thing that i mentioned... every week, you can get between 1 and 5. every now and again i get another one showing up, and i have no clue what actually triggers it. but the daily chance thing is the best way that i know of. every day, submit a daily chance ticket. but don't redeem your ticket mastery bonus! it will fill up after 6 days. when it is full, you redeem it for a random number of godfather points between 1 and 5. i think it resets each week, so on the seventh day, i just redeem the bonus for a random loot piece.

Re: Forum on Facebook (split from split from Prez)

MW is getting on my nerves. I know it's a colossal waste of time but it's doubly so when it's not functioning properly. I just tried to set up three 24 hour rackets at a cost of 75 influence each and it only set up two of them but took the influence for the three. I know it's monopoly money, but $110,000,000 is a lot of dough to lose in one day.

I see a bunch of you have tried out the 'Dislike' thingie. I have the option now right next to 'Like' but nothing happens when I click on it. And what's with the affiliation to Artiface? Is this a scam or can you guys really 'Dislike' something? Personally, one of the most annoying things I find on facebook is people 'Liking' everything. It's like if someone posted something on a forum like this and someone kept saying 'Good Post' every time their favorite posters posted something.

Re: Forum on Facebook (split from split from Prez)

Doesn't make a whole lot of difference until you get to the final two chapters of Moscow... I've basically been alternating between the two since there are weapons that are unique to Vory or Mafiya (I like to collect everything, dammit) and your choice for each chapter doesn't become final until you complete level mastery anyway. This is a very useful wiki - http://mafiawars.wikia.com/wiki/Jobs - that should help you make your final choices. They make recommendations too. edit -- this is actually a better link -- http://mafiawars.wikia.com/wiki/Vory_vs_Mafiya
