Yeesh. No Beltran, Delgado, Reyes, or Church. Playing two secondbasemen and no shortstop. Going to be a rough night.

Gwreck
May 26 2009 03:12 PM

Yeah, listing R. Martinez at second was a freudian slip but your comment stands.

Ceetar
May 26 2009 03:32 PM

And no Murphy _again_

what does Tatis have on Manuel anyway?

Gwreck
May 26 2009 03:36 PM

This is Tatis' second start in the last week.

He started last night, and before then, on Monday the 18th.

Well what do you know. He started yesterday. and he's starting again today. again. fact.

Is Murphy an everyday player or not?

He's not hitting worse than Tatis. He's _definitely_ not fielding worse than Tatis. He has more potential than Tatis. If he's going to be our 1B, he should probably play it as much as possible.

TransMonk
May 26 2009 03:42 PM

These lineups are weak. 2004 weak.

It is amazing that we've been treading water as long as we have.

Gwreck
May 26 2009 03:43 PM

Tatis is a better defender and has been hitting better. Fact.

I don't know "what he's got" on Jerry, either but I'm sure that's an unsupportable argument.

attgig
May 26 2009 03:59 PM

with the rest of the lineup as unstable as it is, seems like playing tatis is a bit safer right now.

murph has been in a horrible slump, and while fielding stats are somewhat arguable, according to espn, their range, and zone ratings are pretty equal at 1b.

Even with Reyes out Castillo can't find his way into the leadoff position.
Makes one wonder if that ST experiment ever had any possibility of happening.

Did I miss something with Murphy? , young Martinez looks the part for sure.

It's a weak lineup -- but we're playing the Nationals!!! Yes!!!

And FMart in the lineup shows the value of having a team in Buffalo instead of all the way in New Orleans!

Swan Swan H

And in stories not related to Ceetar's crush on young Daniel Murphy:

- Hernandez with a nice first inning- the ball is moving nicely.

- Nick Johnson looks like the guy you see on Cops telling two officers "Them ain't my dogs."

- Wright remains equatorially hot. When baseball scouts identify a sixth tool they will look for youngsters who do it like David did.

Ashie62
May 26 2009 05:29 PM

I believe the only ML player in history to have 100 RBI and 10 or less HR in a single season is Tommy Herr as a cardinal

Could Wright go 10 120 .330? almost the pace

I can't even take a crap w/o someone DL'd

Who is David Murphy?

Outfielder for the Rangers, acquired from Boston in the Gagne trade. But that's not important right now.

Hey, Howie, don't announce that Livan's going into the seventh like it's such a crazy thought. He's had only 71 pitches.

And now Dunn pisses on my dream of a complete game.

(And some Cub-wannabe fan throws the ball back.)

I got a laugh out of Gary saying that.....

Nymr83
May 26 2009 07:20 PM

no way was the second baseman still on the bag when he caught the throw from 3B. They built $50,000 questec machines to tighten the strike zone and screw the pitchers, couldn't they have accomplished the same for free by not calling the "area out"?

Swan Swan H
May 26 2009 07:21 PM

I just freeze-framed it to be sure, but Andy Handy was standing flat-footed a good foot from the base when he caught Zimmerman's throw. Awfully big neighborhood.

PiggiesTomatoes
May 26 2009 07:23 PM

Forget not being in the neighborhood, Ron said he wasn't even in Flushing, he was in Astoria.

Nymr83
May 26 2009 07:27 PM

Jerry even went out to argue between innings, not something you usually see on area-out calls.

Livan in trouble...

Edgy DC
May 26 2009 07:33 PM

Fuck trouble. Livan is gonna bat!

Fman99
May 26 2009 07:35 PM

Are starters even allowed to pitch in the 9th inning?

Swan Swan H
May 26 2009 07:37 PM

They should have a little name for it when a pitcher pitches all nine innings. Maybe a Whole Game, or an Entire Game. A Total Game? Nah.

Wait, Gary just called it a Complete Game. Clever! I think that might stick.

I didn't know Manuel had it in him to let a pitcher pitch past the 7th inning. I thought there was a rule or something. Nice of Livan to give the pen a break.

I hope Livan is thirsty because I see a fair amount of Schaeffer coming his way.

Also, a caffeinated Dan Iassogna-- when not issuing pointless, ineffectual bench warnings for offspeed brushback pitches-- punched the air on called strikes like an anime character in pads. So, you know, trivial fun to be had there.

(BTW: Sorry I missed you, TMF. Was delayed getting in-- long story.)
