You know - if that McCutcheon guy turns out to be any good, that's not a horrible lineup at all.

The pitching's not bad, either. Assuming no rookie yips, the kid should improve their OF defense (a clicking Morgan-McCutchen-Moss has nationwide coverage). If McCutchen hits the ground doing more than just running (he's got Reyesian speed, by all reports), LaRoche the younger (post-hype sleeper!) keeps developing, and Doumit comes back as some semblance of his regular self, this team will be an absolute pain in the rear to play down the stretch.

Beltran just misses a dinger there according to Howie. Wayne stupidly adds that if Beltran hadn't lost weight due to sickness then it would've been a home run. Like he knows.

Welcome back Carlos.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 04 2009 10:41 AM

Bad call by the first base ump results in Castillo being called out at first. Beltran follows with a double off the top of the wall, so the ump has cost the Mets a first-inning run.

Carlos is on second, two outs, and Sheffield hitting.

Mets are looking for a bat but a legitimate number 2 starter behind Johan would fit the bill nicely. Ex....Johan,Oswalt, Pelfrey, Maine, Perez when he comes back but Livan until then. I also think Murphy isnt woth the 250 average right now when he cant catch a cold. If he was hitting .340 I would say different. Derosa would fit in nicely and be useful when Delgado comes back.

The save stat is the primary example of a statistic influencing a game. The 5-inning win is in second place.

Anything barbs I toss in Green's direction are at least 50 percent attempted-reverse-jinx... if we're doing anything this year, we'll need some productive innings from the firm of Takahashi,Green and Stokes. I've seen some of his previous work (thanks to a friend's Extra Innings package the last few years) and think he can still be plenty useful and good-graces-worthy.

JJ ChinPubes, on the other hand, kinda lost me with the "no adrenaline" BS.

I have noticed a quiet turn of fortunes by Green and do take heart in the rumor that baseball players who get worse occasionally get better.

But I'm with LWFS on being dismayed by the adrenaline quote, especially since a) eighth innings count like ninth innings, basically; and b) the Mets have gone along with that ludicrous "Thunderstruck" stuff when Putz enters a game. Not so much the song but the light and sound effects. Mrs. Fafif witnessed it firsthand and marveled that "it's the pitcher who changes the weather."

Yes. J.J. Putz appears and it rains base hits everywhere.
