IGT - New Yorks at Washingtons 6/6/09

Mendoza Line

I flipped on SNY this afternoon and saw Beltran get called out at third stretching a double into a triple and posted a rant about it here. Then I saw that Redding was pitching in the bottom of the first and thought, "wait - didn't he pitch last night???"

Then I noticed the Encore logo at upper right on my screen.

Yeah. Last night's game. I missed it. Missing tonight's game, too, because I'm seeing Citizen Cope in Montclair. But let's go Mets, and all that.

duh.

They should play Hoagy Carmichael music!

TheOldMole

That's counting Sheffield as a sub, which is technically correct.

Zvon
Jun 06 2009 05:18 PM

aww shit.
Come on Maine.

Settle down, find a groove.

Zvon
Jun 06 2009 05:42 PM

Ugh.
Santos lead off single wasted via another D.P.

Phils/Dodgers 2-2 in the 10th.
L.A. threatening with 2 on, 2 out.

Zvon
Jun 06 2009 05:54 PM

Horrible, awful baserunning.
Get your heads outta your ass's guys!

seawolf17
Jun 06 2009 05:59 PM

That's four double plays in four innings for the Nats, the latest thanks to the aforementioned head-up-ass baserunning as Emil Brown passes a retreating Luis Castillo on the bases, then Castillo gets thrown out doubling back to second.

It was just ugly.

And now Dukes homers and it's Worst Team In Baseball 4, Mets 0.

Zvon
Jun 06 2009 06:01 PM

Even if that was a blown call and a catch, you can't let that turn into a double play.
Thats ridiculous.

Frayed Knot
Jun 06 2009 06:08 PM

Either the umps gave the wrong call or Castillo simply assumed it was a catch and never looked at the ump (or he looked at the wrong one).

Maine pitched much better with the flu bug.

Zvon
Jun 06 2009 06:16 PM

I thought he just had a bad first inning and was gonna keep us in it.
WRONG!

Takahashi on to mop up.

Dodgers beat Phils in 12!

seawolf17
Jun 06 2009 06:26 PM

Yeah, just let Takahashi hit. No sense actually trying to win the game, Jerry.

SteveJRogers
Jun 06 2009 06:40 PM

Someone had better tell that nimrod in the front row that his team is down by 7 runs, and he looks more pathetic talking on his cell, waving his arms like a moron because the team he is rooting for is getting 1 hit and down by 7.

WOW, you scored behind the plate seats, and you are a Met fan, good job, but you are still an attention seeking piece of crud with your silly antics.

And its saying something when I'M calling someone out for being an attention seeking piece of crud!

I'm mildly disconcerted at these poor pitching performances we've seen recently.

Maine, Pelf and Redding (last time thru) have now all thrown the kinda game even a good O would have a hard time winning.

Ouch..7-0..same old same old

Kong76

The behind the plate camera is really high. I think they talked about it last
night when talking about how high their booth is.

Zvon
Jun 06 2009 06:58 PM

Crapeeola.
Whats the record for D.P.'s in a 9 inning game?

Can't be many more than 5.....

seawolf17
Jun 06 2009 06:59 PM

I like how that commercial rhymes "neck broke" with "crash you didn't provoke."

This team has suck tonight.

Elster88
Jun 06 2009 06:59 PM

Have faith. They can push it to 6.

seawolf17
Jun 06 2009 07:02 PM

Your record would be seven.

http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1969/B05040HOU1969.htm

FIELDING -
DP: 7. Menke-Morgan-Blefary, Rader-Morgan-Blefary, Menke-Morgan-Blefary, Morgan-Blefary,
Menke-Blefary, Blefary-Menke, Morgan-Menke-Blefary.

edit: by six different guys (Ron Hunt hit into two)

PiggiesTomatoes

This team is f-ing pathetic. Wilson Valdez, please! Strike out, flay out. Just no DP.

Zvon
Jun 06 2009 07:06 PM

Man, I'm getting old.
I know who almost all of those players in that box score are.

Thx seawolf17
I tip my hat to you.

Well.

Kong76
Jun 06 2009 07:08 PM

At least the fugliness was brief in terms of game time.

Zvon
Jun 06 2009 07:08 PM

At least that was quick.

Like JCL said, the pitching is a concern, especially vs. these suckass teams.

But that stupid double play where Castillo, IMO, messed up,
is the kind of bad baseball we cannot afford to be playing this season.

Castillo is running back to first with his head down,
not even looking to see whats going on around him.

You have to be aware of what's going on around you.

I can even go back to the first when Beltran swung at a two strike pitch in the dirt and was K'd.
I watch a lot of Phils games, cuz I get em here, and every player on that team, in that situation,
would have immediately spun around to see if the catcher handled that pitch before they
would have considered that at bat over.

Thats a small thing but these things add up.
Any play can turn a game, or spark an inning.

Be aware of whats going on around you.
Keep your head in the game and the game situations.

Ashie62
Jun 06 2009 07:10 PM

Everything is a concern..Pathetic...

Frayed Knot
Jun 06 2009 07:11 PM

If you're not gonna hit, and you're not gonna pitch, and you're not gonna run ... you might as well not do 'em all at the same time.

Wish I was in Washington to go bar-hopping with the CPF contingent.

PiggiesTomatoes
Jun 06 2009 07:13 PM

You know what, Keith. I hope the Mets don't sleep well tonight. I hope someone busts some crap up in the clubhouse after the game. I hope someone goes off on the team to the beat reporters after the game. I hope we see more emotion from Beltran who went into the wall to catch a ball last inning. 1-4 against the Gnats and Pirats the last five games.

In my best Charles Barkley, "This team is terrible."

Elster88
Jun 06 2009 07:22 PM

]1-4 against the Gnats and Pirats the last five games.

Ugh. When you put it that way it sounds so terrible. But we are trotting out Emil Brown and Wilson Valdez. Can we really expect much better?

Vs. those 2 teams?
Yes, we can.
In both the pitching and hitting departments.
Especially pitching wise.

Hope this is just a bad week that we can forget when Maine and Pelf get back in the groove.

MFS62
Jun 06 2009 07:50 PM

The Gnats were on a pace to lose 119 games this year before today's win.

Maybe someone can remind the Washington GM of the old Branch Rickey line to Ralph Kiner, "We finished last with you and we can finish last without you".
Then they can whisper in that GM's ear a suggestion to trade Dunn to the Mets.
Can't hurt.
After all, doesn't he want to be the GM of a record - setting team?

Screw that. I want Nick Johnson too, and Cristian Guzman until Reyes gets back.

They can have Ryan Church back.

I understand the emotion, but I just don't think that would do any good. Would it make Valdez and Emil hit? Will Maine pitch better next game because someone breaks a bat in the locker room? Will it make Reyes heal faster? Will it make Sheffield younger? Will it make StevieJeets stop posting?
