I can barely keep up with this crap anymore and what mentions there are of this stuff here is buried inside several threads:

- Jose Reyes suffered a setback with his right calf when discomfort returned. Reyes was forced to leave an extended spring training game Wednesday after his second at-bat. He's headed to New York to be seen by team doctors Thursday.

- Ryan Church played an uneventful six innings and is on target to return Sunday as scheduled when he's eligible.

- Ramon Martinez has a fracture in his left pinkie and will require surgery. He'll be prevented from doing any baseball activities for six weeks.

All the above from Adam Rubin's blog.
AR also had a 3:17 announcement that Beltran would again miss tonight's game ... and then checked back in 20 minutes later to say that Carlos declared himself healthy (skinny, but healthy - as the result of 5 or more pounds lost) enough to play

And that Emil Brown is now a NYMet as a result of R Martinez going on the DL

That's all for now ... or at least until someone gets hurt during warmups.

2004 all over again -- wonder what he's mad about this time.

If it's 2004 again, I hope Jerry doesn't make him test his hammy on the Olympic Stadium turf.

I'm mentally counting out Reyes till the ASB and suggest it's time to summon Ruben Tejeda.

This is what I feared about Jose.

He has shown that he can play full healthy seasons. But he hasn't shown at all that he can quickly recover from injuries. In fact, he seems to be proving the opposite.

Let's hope Alex Cora is better than some here have claimed. (I think he is.)

I gotta say, all these injuries are killing me. We didn't switch trainers or something, did we?

Any objection to merging this guy into the "World of Pain" thread?

Putz to be examined in NYC tomorrow

This is hardly a surprise. After today's game, J.J. Putz revealed that he is headed back to NYC to have his sore right elbow examined by team doctors. Putz entered in the seventh inning and allowed three hits and two runs in the Pirates' 11-6 rout of the Mets.

Putz already is bothered by a bone spur in the elbow that doesn't allow him to finish his pitches, especially his splitter and two-seam fastball, so surgery seems like the logical next step for him.

"I'm not following through because it hurts," Putz said. When asked about a decent splitter he threw today, Putz replied, "Yeah, and it it hurt."

Might as well shut him down. He's not doing anybody any good, and maybe with a month or so of rest he'll be a useful pitcher down the stretch.

Worth a shot, anyway.

Surgery means out for the season right?

Benjamin Grimm

I'd think it would mean at least three months, but probably longer.

So yeah, I think that would be the end of him.

Does that mean we can have Endy Chavez and Mike Carp back?
