WFAN reporting he's having surgery on the elbow, gone for eight, 10 weeks.

Bobby Parnell, welcome to the eighth inning.

I'm guessing we see Lance Broadway?

The Daily News was speculating that it would be Elmer Dessens or Nelson Figueroa.

Adam Rubin: J.J. Putz will have surgery Tuesday to address the bone spur in his right elbow, although it's not considered a season-ending injury, sources confirmed to the Daily News. Putz signaled Thursday after pitching in Pittsburgh in pain that he could not continue without getting the matter addressed.

That's much faster than I expected. We should have a nice pen by August. In fact, the team should be ok if it can just hang in there over these next two months.

Billy Wagner?

When I first heard they were looking at surgery, I was worried it would be a Tommy John situation.

But who... will be the Seventh-Inning Guy? Who can get their glands to most effectively secrete regulatory hormones when there are still 9 outs left to record?

Should Stokes' glands not function in an optimal manner, I hear Houston has a few guys we can look at.

I'd like to see a committee approach to the seventh inning. It can be shared among Santana, Maine, Pelfrey, and Hernandez.

Situational and middle relief pitching should be the one area where in-org guys will suffice.

That Eddie Kunz star sure seems to have dimmed, huh?

He was walky in college, and he's walky now.

Draft a HS/college starter, and he fails to develop as you'd hoped... you can stick him in the bullpen, and try to have him refine on his best 1-2 pitches.

Draft a college reliever, and he fails to develop/deliver... you can stick him in your rear end, and consider him an uncomfortable lesson learned.

Best. Solution. If not ever than in ages.

Roster moves:
] Fernando Nieve will replace J.J. Putz on the roster. Nieve was claimed off waivers from the Astros late in spring training. He began the season at Double-A Binghamton, and was 3-0 with a 3.70 ERA as a starter since joining Triple-A Buffalo. *** The Mets also have claimed lefthander Pat Misch off waivers from the Giants. He will be assigned to Buffalo. Misch appeared in four games for San Francisco this season.
