Fernando Nieve will take Putz' spot. We should try and field an all-Fernando Team.

Also, lefty Pat Misch claimed on waivers from the Giants and assigned to AAA Buffalo.

MFS: Chanelling John Sterling? <<<

You think about him a lot for a Mets' fan. I can't recall the last time I heard
more than a minute of him per month for like forever.

[url=http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nievefe01.shtml:15wjz92a]Fernando Nieve[/url:15wjz92a] -- (I like how quick someone jumps on the sponsorship thing)

Nieve is a soon-to-be 26 y/o Venezuelan, signed as a teenager by Houston 10 years ago. The Astros were the first ones all over Venz - inking (among others) Johan, Bobby Abreu, Richard Hidalgo.
So they get this guy as a teen, he spends parts of 8 seasons with them - plus probably more in Vz leagues - and he gets claimed off waivers having never reached their big club.

Me neither. I don't even think I'd recognize the sound of his voice. I don't think I've ever listened to a Yankees game on the radio.

I know Misch's sister. I've been following him the past few years. Guess I'll work the cpf interview angle.

Can you hear the drums, Fernando?

More than the ABBA song, the name reminds me of this book that I used to read as a little kid:

<img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MAL7Foun6Cs/SNfpTMd7GiI/AAAAAAAAAS4/bQQ38kKx_AM/s400/ferdinand.jpg">

It's about a bull who was supposed to fight in the ring, but he preferred to sit under a tree and smell flowers.

Fernando "My God, You Are So" Nieve saw some big league time in 2006 and 2008. He has a good arm but Houston needed him to pitch well in spring training, but he didn't, and failed to make the club. He was out of options, and the Mets grabbed him.

He had Tommy John in 2007. Sits between 94 and 97, but has hit 99.

Ha! Used to have my mother read that one to me over and over. Haven't thought about it since then, probably.

Sterling is the hallmark for bad baseball player name puns, just like Chris Berman for doing the same with football players.

As for listening to him now, I used to listen to him broadcast Nets games. I haven't recovered since.

He's the Geeambeeno Abomb guy we hear sound clips of on the news.
I didn't put two and two together in my haste to mock.

Speaking of mocking, let's move on to Nets basketball on the radio :-)

Mr. Misch will find the links for CPF and MBTN in his email account later today. Let's see if he jumps in the pool.
