I would have put this in the no-purpose thread, but the line of conversation there is currently a bit somber.
Anyway, I paid cash for my newspapers at 7-Eleven this morning. I gave the cashier a twenty and got back three ones, a five, and a ten, along with some coins.
Both the five and the ten had been written on.
The ten said, in big bold letters, "I HATE HOMOS."
The five said, in somewhat smaller letters, "I LOVE JORGE POSADA!"
Both sentiments are pretty offensive, but in different ways.
I was eager to spend them both, so I ended up making a couple of cash purchases where I might otherwise have used credit cards. I decided to get rid of the ten first, and later I got rid of the five.
In neither case did the cashier seem to notice the writing on the bills. But I felt weird spending them, as if I were endorsing the statements that were defacing the money.
